Garand trigger guard unlatching
I bought an HRA Garand a few months ago, and finally shot it today. It is very accurate, and has a nice wood stock. But- the trigger guard would unlatch, casing failures. How can I fix this?

Likely the wood compressed - might need a paper shim.

As you close the trigger guard you should feel strong resistance as the end of the gaurd is approx 3/4 of a inch from closing
If you have no resistance at all as already said wood is compressed which will affect accuracy You need shims under the trigger housing where it sets on the stock. Some cut strips of refridgerator magnet. You can also cut strips of walnut veneer and glue to the stock |

Or glass it under the trigger housing. Be aware that you doing this makes the rifle ineligible for John C. Garand matches, but a government arsenal doing it does not. Makes perfect sense, right?

Not at all for sure. I guy I know shot what he thought was a JCG legal "as-issued" rifle in the John C Garand match at nationals in 2010, and was DQ'd from that category and put into the "unlimited" roster because of some repair wood that was in the stock well when he got it from the CMP. It was in no way an aid to the accuracy of the rifle, but it was not orignal to the stock, and that was that. A shame, too, since he came off the line with a 291-6x, and was in the running.

Do you have a milled or a stamped trigger guard? I have a "tanker" that had the same problem. Trigger guard would pop open every few rounds. Plenty of tension closing the guard, but not enough engagement on the "hook". Tim Shuflin diagnosed it on the phone and a NOS trigger guard from my parts box fixed it.
