Receiver problem..looking for ideas..
OK gun shoot 18 inches left at 50 yards..so shlo and I find some run out in the barrel and figure that is the issue..so I get an stg barrel screwed on and timed and...it shoots 24 inches left at 100 yards..some nice groups though...
Could the Bore and threading for the barrel be out of alignment? If so how can you check that and can it be corrected/compensated for by machining and adding a breech washer..or is it now a paper weight and I should go order a DSA?? It's an old coonan (not the new ones) that I had been running with an eotech for years. |

Sounds like you are over tighting the barrel . Slow down and watch how the front sight times up it should be straight up at 12O.clock without overtighting the barel if its lose at 12 then you can shim the barrel or you can chuck it up in a lathe and turn a few thousands off the shoulder till it times properly. or you can just pay Mark at ARS to time the rifle and reset the headspacing me i think Mark's money well spent as i dont own a lathe

Bring it over.
We'll mill off the top of the gas block down to the regulator, fill the dovetail in the lower, and put on the Eotech. Done.

WTH are you and shlomo doin' over there?! Crooked barrels and such.
![]() ![]() May I make a suggestion? You could contact Dan Coonan and run it by him. Maybe a new receiver would fit the bill. I would if it were my company and it seems he runs it just about like I would. Good luck. Leland

Well I just talked to the coonan folks, and they will credit me about what I paid for it towards a new one (can't ask for more than that considering its age) ...only issue is they are a few months behind...

Not as relieved as Gunplumber, he'd be so mad he'd be shakin' like a dog shittin' a peach pit. He hates resetting headspace.

Yeah I put a Coonan together last year and when I went to time it I was all WTF?
Bbl bent? Nope. Checked receiver face and it was off.

Shlomo, I didn't realize you had a mill and a shop all set up down there. Can I send down a Fal for some work. It won't be much of a job for you. Just need an Imbel converted to belt fed and cut the barrel back to 18 inches so I can carry it under my trench coat.

So how does a hockey player on a horse tun into a 'regulator'? Do they make stirrups for skates?

Well, in this case when we got it put together it wouldn't time properly.
Looking down the bbl/receiver it looked like the bbl was bent. So we took the bbl off and chucked it up in the lathe between centers to watch it dance, BUT, it looked pretty darn true! So then I stuck a different bbl on the receiver and it did the same thing. That was enough for me to blame the receiver and I sent the owner off to talk to Dan. Customer later called me back to say Dan had confirmed some of these got loose.
