M48 Mauser

Thinking about aquiring an M48 mauser. Is it worth it to take my chances with someone like Century for a very good grade or go with someone like Mitchell's Mausers standard or better grade? Any advice is appreciated.

I have 3 M48 Yugo mausers. All in unissued condition. THe first I payed too much for($200). The next 2, I bought from Coles Distributing for $100 each. If Coles still has any, they are a great deal. You can also try AIM or Federal Arms Corp. for excellent, unissued M48s for around $100. I would not pay Mitchells price when you can get one just as nice for $100-125.

i agree with bnz don't buy one from mitchells.im sure they are fine people but thier 48's are way over priced.on top of century and the ones bnz mentioned i would try cdnn they seem to have all the goodies that go with the rifle sling,bayo ect.the 48 is a awsome gun i love mine and im sure you will like yours.

I bought one of the M48As from a dealer off of Auction Arms with all of the goodies for $139.00. Only thing wrong witn it was a storage ding but I steamed it out. As BNZ42 mentioned, check with Cole's or Aims to see if they still have some left. I've heard only good reports from others about the condition and quality of their $100.00 M48s. Just yesterday I looked at an M48A that one of my gun club memebers bought from Aims and it was in great shape not as nice as my unissued but dang close to it. The bluing was as nice but the stock had seen more handling use. Shoot, I may even check on another one myself. I really enjoy my M48A. RB

Thanks. Another question, is there enough difference in the M48 vs. the M48A to worry about? Or, just get the one I can get the best price on?
Thanks again, Tim

Last I heard, Coles was out of unissued ones, but its worth a call. Got my M48a from them, pristine condition.

Believe the M-48A has a stamped floor plate and trigger guard, as opposed to machined ones on the M-48. I think they're otherwise similar.

hey there.... newbie, but I know my mausers... The m48 has all milled parts including floorplate, bands, and triggerguard. 48A's have milled plates, triggerguards, and bands. Then there is a 48BO which is cyrlic for "sans markings". The BO's are scrubbed as they were going to be shipped to Egypt in the 50s in violation of some treaty hence the lack of markings. All milled and can be crude. They are all intermediate length actions (m38 and k98 bolts will not work). Right now Century is advertising "bosnian M48". Strictly marketing b.s. (bosnia is part of the old yugoslavia). Their guns have been pretty rough from all reports I have seen. AIM has mint m48A's for 99+ shipping right now. I just bought two and they were both mint with 95% or better bluing and no scuffs. I havn't been able to find anyone who is selling the package 48s in sometime. If you can find a 48 they are a little nicer with all milled parts, then the 48A, and the BO last. Or if you want a real K98, CDNN has yugo k98 german reworks for 169 for number matching with 95% or better bluing... sorry so long...hope this helps.... Mark

Hi Timcart;
I bought a Excellent M48A from WG&A, All matching numbers, Metal is Mint, $139.95.
The M-48A has a Stamped floorplate a what looks like a cast triggerguard, as compared to milled units on the M48.
I just shot mine yesterday, was a Hoot but a real kicker
Now, I think I should have tried COLES or even Simpsons may have some!

My M48A came from AIM ($139 back then), was unissued, and was nearly perfect, other than slightly rough stock (which 0000 SW smoothed right out). It's an extremely good shooter, can hold its own with my No4mk1 and K-31. With handloads, MOA isn't out of the question. Too bad there's no scope to find out, but I can't gonna bubba her up to find out.

You don't have to find non-corrosive ammo, just clean your rifle after you shoot it. All you have to do is spray on some windex after shooting then clean normaly. The turk ammo is so cheap right now I don't know why everyone isn't stocking up on it.

Just got a cracked stock 48BO from Century today. Not bad, but it has seen better days, but for 50 bucks, can't complain. I also bought 780 rds of Romanian 8mm from FAC for 39.95 +shipping ($62 total from MN to NE). It is sealed in cans in a crate. 72 headstamp 156gr. The turk stuff is cheaper, but boy is it brutal on the arm. I shot about 30rds of the stuff and called it good and gave the rest away. The Romanian seems to be cleaner than the turk too. Still have to clean after it though. Good luck and hope you find a good one.
