High Comb Buttstocks for Fixed Carry Handle Optics
One of the greatest problems with the fixed carry handle AR-15/M-16 series is the difficulty of attaching an optic to the carry handle and being able to get a proper cheek weld with the buttstock that lines the eye up with the optic. I have ended up using a 'chin weld' with the scopes bwhich is neither natural, repeatable or very fast.
A long time ago, Colt sold a replacement buttstock that had an odd looking high cheek rest to enable a proper weld when mounting their 3X and 4X scopes on the carry handles. I shot one once and it worked well, but I never got around to buying one as my eyes worked a lot better back then and optics weren't a priority for 5.56mm carbines. I have old/new Colt-brand 3X and 4X scopes. I have a Colt AR-15 SP-1 that I bought new in the early 1980's and the department has a host of ex-U.S. Army M-16-A2's available. I would like to obtain a highcomb or cheekrest replacement buttstock or two and try them out with my scopes. Anyone have one for sale or know of a source?

The one on the old Colt looked something like this. Had one in our armory - our first "DMR" M16A2 with it's full heavy barrel and a rubber armored 3x9.
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_123/4...hey_cool_.html there are a lot of other, better options today if you are not trying to duplicate the Green Label Delta HBAR of 1986. The Cheek riser sells new for $80-$100 (Galanti, etc) - the question is whether it needs to say "Colt" on it.

Does anyone know if the cheek riser's work for a left handed shooter?
