Remington, fixin to rule the world
I've heard that Remington has bought up almost every weapons manufacturer in existence........ maybe I should open a company that build AR rifles so when Remington gets the next GIGANTIC Government contract to build all the new rifles and handguns, they'll buy my company for 1 million dollars (Dr Evil voice).
![]() Their newest ACR.......

What is everyones take on these rifles? I have heard such conflicting reviews I have no idea what to believe. I like the design and concept but how do they run?

Probably cost too much.

more than likely. I have seen some at a local gunshop for 2000. Seems high for a glorified AR unless it has some major improvements and reliability. I would like to know how it compares.

Something to make the SCAR fan-boys cringe. Competition is a good thing.

Wow! That's neat. I especially like the adjustable butt-stock. It's hard for me to find one long enough. LOP 14 1/4. My only criticism is that I'd want to see a 7.62 cal.

Remington is just one of many bought by Cerberus Capital. They appear to operate under the umbrella company "The Freedom Group" but I have no idea what their org chart might look like.

Remington parent company
I believe ex VP, ex Senator, Dan Quayle was originally on the board and most involved with international projects and sales. He may still be there.

http://remingtonmilitary.com/ Nice place to shop. Lesee, I'll take a M24, a R5-RGP, a RAHG an one of them R11-RSASS things in .308. ![]() The RAHG hadguard is one of the few that looks like you could hold onto without thinking you got ahold of the business end of a Porkupine. Remy also got the contract to upgrade the older M24 Snipers.

As an aside, Colt is finding that without the military contracts to live off, there is actually a civilian market place out there.

They also own Bushmaster and Marlin, as well as a couple of smaller companies.

The ACR isn't going to replace the AR anytime. It doesn't even run as good as what we have now. Matter of fact the M4A1 and M16A4 won't be replaced anytime soon. All of you piston fan boys take note, your design has not been adopted.

I must be the only one that can't warm up the SCAR,ACR etc, etc. Looks like Gecko 45 impregnated Tapco's version of an M4.

The original ACR was heavy and expensive.
They are lighter now and use magnesium alloy receivers. I don't know if that's good or bad or if that will be interesting in a fire. |

The ACR is a POS, judging by the hate posts all over the internet. People have posted all kinds of bad stuff about them on youtube. SOCOM bought the FN SCAR and it has seen action in the AOR. I don't see the bad press on the SCAR anywhere. I have a heavy and a light and they are the best rifles I have and most accurate. I have 10 FAL of different nationalities and will go to the SCAR every time over the FAL or AR15. It's a quality piece.

According to them, there are too many malfunctions plus buttstock breakages. They were also not impressed with the reciprocating charging handle as they both stated that it contributed to malfunctions. I was surprised by their comments as I really wanted to buy a SCAR 17 as it feels very well balanced and fits me perfectly. I tried the ACR but it felt like a club, was too muzzle heavy and I couldn't get a good cheek weld with. I guess you have to be real careful where you place your non firing hand when holding the SCAR 17. |

^ x2.
I fired a SCAR 17 a few months ago. It was okay, but the reciprocating charging handle was annoying. IMO, it's not worth the $$$ they're asking. |

Only those with poor shooting habits have issues with the reciprocal charging handle. Funny how you don't hear the same from M-1 and M-14 shooters...

Robinson Arms has been making this type weapon since 1999. M96 and XCR. It certainly has not taken the military by storm and neither will the ACR.

Actually, Remington did get a fairly large order of M4 carbines from the military.
My personal take on the ACR is that it simply is too new. They still need to work the bugs out of it. They essentially took a concept rifle and put it into production. Perhaps in some time they'll get it figured out.
