DSA-unable to ship, unable to give an honest answer
DSA makes great stuff. Their fulfillment on the other hand, is crap. I bought a receiver from them a couple of years ago, they told me it would ship in a month, it eventually got to me after about a year, maybe longer. I don't have all the details in front of me, so I'll use this review to document my current order. Maybe it will help people to know what to expect when dealing with DSA:
-03/26/12 (week of) placed an order for two items, talked to Russ. One is in stock, the other, a Hammer/Trigger/Sear kit is not. Told that HTS will be in-stock in 2wks. Russ transposed the part numbers that I was reading to him, got my street address wrong (after I spelled it out), told me the wrong price on the items I ordered (I corrected him based on the website). Confidence is low. -04/23/12 it's been 3+ weeks, called to check on order & double-check that Russ entered it correctly. Told that they are "assembling" the HTS kits, will ship in a week. I ask how many they are making and how deep I am in the queue. In other words, will I definitely get one of the ones being "assembled" now. Told, "No problem, we're making a ton, and you are near the top of the queue." MidwayUSA now has DSA HTS kits back in stock, they had been out since before I placed my order with DSA in March. -05/01/12 (week of) told that HTS are done and are just being "received" by the quality department, will ship in days. -05/15/12 Notice that Midway is again out of stock on the DSA HTS, so call DSA again. Told that triggers & sears are available, but they need to build more hammers because they "had a big order." I don't really understand this because all three parts are sold as a set. Also, why didn't I get one of the last batch that I was promised? No answer, told that I should have it in about a week. Anyone care to place a bet on whether I'll have it in a week? Brilliant service DSA, you guys rock. v Last edited by vandal968; May 15, 2012 at 12:25. |

@ OP..I put in an order for one of there AR uppers..It took 6 weeks for me to get the upper but when I bought it,it was out of stock (hence the wait). The customer service person Ive had the best luck with is Nikki. If there out of HTS kits, I think Falcon arms sells them as well. |

Nicole is gone. Super cool girl too, miss her terribly. Have not spent a nickel at DSA since she left. IMHO DSA made a gigantic mistake. 10 seconds with the phone monkey that replaced her and I was done for good.

You guys just keep going back. If you can't lay hands on it, then don't expect it anytime soon. If you can wait for long periods of time, finally get a product only to have it break and finally, ship it back only to wait some more, then by all means, go there. There are other vendors out there for most parts. It's too bad that it has come to this. There is definitely a market out there for good parts, albeit the market is getting smaller due to less kits available. Some companies just don't want the small niche stuff.

Ordered some parts and an AR upper/barrel assembly from DSA back on November 22nd. Parts came but barrel assembly was backordered so sent them an e-mail canceling that part of the order. May 11th comes and I get an e-mail thanking me for my order, credit card is hit for $310 and my barrel is on the way. 6 months later I'm getting parts I previously cancelled showing up at the house. The only reason I'm keeping it is because I've got a few extra receivers around. Don't know how they manage to f*ck up damn near everything they touch lately.

I was originally trying to get a type 2 receiver. After a year or more of waiting, I spoke to Nicole who told me that she might be able to steal a type 1 from somewhere if that would work for me (it did). I had the impression that she stole it off of an assembly table or something to help me out. I sure miss her ![]() v |

I was looking for an AR receiver recently. They wouldn't even return the FFL's call and he is on file with them. Pretty poor service. At least I was able to get through the other day and cancel my para railed topcover order after they told me "it goes into production in two to three weeks". They could've listed it as "out of stock" on their site like every other company usually does, but instead I get a four day hold on my $$$. How many times we heard these 2-3 week fables before? No thanks....

Just ordered my Type 1 Monday thru Russ was told it would take 3 weeks for him to get it back from serialization and to ship.
So I emailed Mike, Asked him if he could take over my order an get me one sooner he said it's in Stock an will ship Friday with out a doubt. Im building an SPR and Mike has been my go to guy at DSA and has always held his word in. Taking care of me from the start... I'll have an update in a few days.. Sorry to hear of the shitty service guys.. |

If it wasn't for their military contracts DSA would have went under by now. I wouldn't buy anything from them now even if they were the last place on earth with want i needed. They had pretty good customer service at one time years ago and their parts were quality but they don't care about us regular folks anymore and haven't for years. The quality of their receivers and parts went away as well.
You guys ordering AR parts from DSA are friggin retarded. I can order anything AR from BCM, Colt, Daniel Defense and a few other companies and have a high quality, mil-spec part in my hand in a few days tops. I wouldn't take a T-shirt from DSA if it was free and i used to like them. |

From what I can tell, DSA's money is now in government AR contracts.. FALs are a small hobby niche that is only growing smaller with time and government import/export regulations and a thorn in their side. Also from what I can tell they have not heard of computerized inventory/production systems for tracking and producing parts.

I just picked up this DSA Imbel here http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=330791
First thing I do one I get her home tonight is check headspace, this thing wasn't fired by Thomas more than I'd bet one mag. Well that’s a dang good thing as she swallows my NO-GO better than Linda Lovelace did her stuff Amazing they sent it out like this. How hard can it be to properly h/s in a shop where thats your job? You have all the proper tools and your getting paid to boot.... I just don't get it. I'll fix it, but I don't like pounding a l/s out, and another one into a brand new receiver that should have been set correctly in the first place. Thats IF it takes a normal size that I have....not some odd thing that has to be custom made. I tried five other bolt/carriers also, just so I wouldnt have to replace the l/s.....no luck. I will replace the Inch b&c also....was an NOS Aussie bolt with a very used 61" Enfield carrier....what happend to the Imbel B/C that came in the kit? oh and it has a Steyr marked mag release, a beveled trigger guard and an Argy hammer of all things.

Forgive me for being a little slow, but if I follow all three threads correctly. A member here bought a factory built rifle. Shot a mag through it and then sold it to you and the rifle is out of spec head space wise?
Is the rifle just as it was shipped from DSA or did the previous owner make changes? Do you have a field gauge and does it swallow it? I just can't imagine that DSA would ship a rifle that wasn't head spaced properly. I could see it happening with a couple of other companies, but DSA has been in the Fal building business for a long time. I can't help but think they have head spacing down to a science by now. I would be interested in knowing how far off HS was. Could you post when you correct the problem?

Yes...it is, closing on a NO-GO is out of spec. Yes, it is as shipped from DSA with the exception of the DSA scope mt...no affect on h/s I do not have a Field....but it closes on the n/g with NO pushing from me at all...just like on the GO...no click...nothing. I could not believe it either....but it's plain as the dickins. I know the seller. There is no way he could have made this happen...it is as shipped from DSA to AIM Surrplus then shipped to Thomas. I will post after I get the L/S out and find the correct one, I wouldn't leave the story undone. ![]() It is a DSA marked receiver as opposed to the DS marked...so if I had to guess, I'll bet it takes a takes a big L/S....we'll see later today I hope. On the plus side, it's got a very nice Imbel brl....great bore, even the flats are perfect. ![]() This is starting to sound like an episode of Ripley's Believe It or Not!

Update, all fixed using a .260 L/S, there was a .253 in place from DSA.
![]() I would also like to add, I use a press to install and remove L/S's...in the post above I said pound out and in....I don't pound on them, I don't recommend pounding on them at all. The tab can be snapped of quite easily.

308 Win. Made by Forster. From GunThings. Being that far off though it would not matter.

I really wish DSA would get their act together.
They are great to deal with in person, but ordering anything from them is a nightmare because they make everything appear to be "in stock" when it is not, and then that requires months of waiting.

I have been dealing with DSA customer service a fair amount lately (bought a used SA-58 that is on their recall list for a trigger component). I have noticed that when I discuss an issue with them by phone, little or nothing happens. However, when I email them, I typically get a response in a few days and they have followed through. I agree that they may have some slack-jawed phone monkeys there. Not sure if the emails bypass them, or they are helped by the opportunity to re-read my requests as many times as needed, but it has been working.
It's very weird. I almost always prefer to talk to a human being, but not in this case. Selvaggio needs to ruffle some feathers in his customer service dept. PS- Russ just called me today and took down some important info. We'll see if he can process. He did seem kind of slow to respond, almost like he'd been drinking, so I see what you all mean. |

DSA Order
Yep DSA is weird ... like its on autopilot or with lots of parttime help that works 12 hours a week ..I ordered some stuff a while back..
They charged my card immediately but no email confirmation or info. I waited a couple weeks then called and emailed to cancel the order as I found the items somewhere else. No response. Then a couple weeks later my stuff arrived

I put in an order with DSA on the 14th for four items. A couple of days later I get an email telling me two of the four items are back ordered. I had the wife call them and cancel the two back ordered items but requested the two in stock items be shipped. Just got a email tonight that my two items have shipped.
I should note that my wife called them within an hour of closing last Friday and that my account was credited for the canceled items on the following Monday. All in all I would say they handled it pretty good. It would have been better if the website had noted the items were out off stock, but other than that they handled it very well.
