Question Cycling/Bolt Lock Back Problems

I am having problems with a new FAL from Century Arms. Having adjusted the gas regulator after noticing it was nearly screwed out all the way, I am having problems with the weapon apparently short stroking and not locking the bolt back after the last round is shot. I am setting the regulator at 2 or 3. I assume the piston is under gassed?

Thanks for the help guys, I'm pulling my hair out here.

Well...First thing is, and you know this but, It's a Century. I assume that you know how to set the gas system up already. Also the ammo you are using is of good quality.

What length barrel?

Did you try droping the piston down the gas tube without the spring on it to see if it is binding?

Remove the front sight and check that the gas port hole is unobstructed and of proper size.

Is the gas system leaking anywhere?

Is the gas piston of the correct diameter?

And lastly are the bolt, carrier, and receiver rails lubed?

Thanks for your reply. I think I have figured out the problem. The bolt is worn down on the bottom where it engages the bolt hold open device. It also causes problems picking up rounds to the chamber from time to time. I've ordered other bolt so hopefully the problem is fixed.

Not so fast-- Remember to check your headspace PRIOR to shooting again ,once you get the new bolt. you might have to replace the LS or get the one you have cut down.
Either way change a bolt = change in HS. sometimes ya luck out and its close nuff to work just fine, but if its not --- out of battery discharge is NO fun.

Yes, thanks, I do plan on getting the headspace checked first. I will have a gunsmith do it or if there is an easier way I am all ears. I have used feeler gauges before for a G-3 I built. Can this be done with the FAL as well?

Yep, an out of battery discharge would ruin my day...
