If all the mainstream republicans were struck dead by lightning at the convention, Ron Paul would still not be allowed the nomination.

That would be a lot of dead Republicans.

But, almost enough. Thor, wherefore art thou? Hast thou abandoned us in our time of most dire need?

The GOP establishment types, foxnews, neoconned radio hosts like Rush/Levin/Hannity would all rather lose with a neo-con like Newt in a double digit Walter Mondale style blowout than win with Ron Paul. They are willing to do anything to stop him, which includes some of the more "interesting" vote counting that has been taking place when the nightly smear jobs on foxnews and talk radio didn't do the job.

Somehow I don't think that RP's going to get the nomination, even with a brokered convention.

There really aint that many Republicans left. Neo-Cons, now that would be some stinkin..
And the Republican Party PTB don't want to win this cycle. Like the Dem's in 04, they want whats coming to fall apart with Obama at the wheel. If Romney wasn't made of money, he'd already be out. |

I think the public will has spoken well so far in the primaries on which if the candidates they believe will unass the sitting and failed president.

You guys do realise that no one has bothered running negative ads against Ron Paul because they don't consider him a serious threat. I wonder what his numbers would look like if he were treated like a serious candidate.

What a ridiculous comment. He has had the worst attacks of all by far!
The nightly attacks on neo-con talk radio, and the constant attacks by other neo-con sources like foxnews -- when they even bother to discuss him -- that is. Besides all of the stuff calling him a racist, saying he wants Iran to get a nuke, saying he is too old, saying he is crazy, saying he will let america be nuked, saying he hates Isreal and is anti-semetic (which is the funniest considering who he is always quoting) saying over and over "he can't win," not giving him anything close to media coverage compared to those doing even worse than him in the polls, etc on a regular basis with neo-cons and foxnews, that is. Then there is the "interesting" vote counting that has gone on in several states that just happened to have all sorts of issues -- just how much has that hurt his campaign? Let's see how well Romney or anyone else would have done if the same sort of vote counting was done to them taking away momentum and press. As one of the political experts (not a Paul fan) I have seen in the past put it, the campaigns are too scared to attack him directly with ads, so they have their proxies in the media (Rush, Levin, O Reilly, etc) attack him so they can deny involvement. Because we have seen what happened to those who were dumb enough to attack him even in the press or the debates (Newt, Perry, Bachmann, Santorum) and how they were clobbered over it and immediately started dropping in the polls after the RP campaign fired back with ads and info released.

Heh - yep - the TRUTH is the best defense:-) they don't directly attack him because they don't want the public exposed to THAT discussion - can't have the sheeple waking up now, most of the time they just ignore him or write him off as a kook.

He'd have to raise his numbers to the point he was considered a serious contender before the beatdown starts. My guess is that after the carpet bombing he'd be right back where he started, at roughly 10-12% of the GOP and maybe that many independents, with a few Democrats thrown in. Also known as single digits in a general election, an historical asterik like Perot.

I think Paul has as much chance of winning the Republician nomination as McCain did in winning the 2008 Presidential election.

"From the financial side, why spend campaign funds against a non-contender when there are more imposing and viable ones to fend off?"
You might want to send an email to the Santorum campaign asking them this question since they just spent money telling people not to vote for Paul in Michigan. "I think Paul has as much chance of winning the Republician nomination as McCain did in winning the 2008 Presidential election." So you are saying he has as much chance of winning the GOP nomination as Romney/Santorum/Newt along with a GOP house and senate do of cutting spending?
