#1 and #2 look the same.
I'm sorry I don't understand. What determine which type you use?

larrymo, look at the extreme left side in the pic of the Type 1 and the Type 2 at the rear of the receiver. See how the top one has the lightening cuts that go all the way to the end in a straight line? Now, look at the second one. It's lightening cuts go to the rear, then down, then back up to the rear. This "scallop" cut is one difference. At the front of the receiver, just under the carry handle cut, the top one is round around the threads on the outside. The second one is partially round with extra material left in a sort of straight direction towards the front, more than the first, but less than the Type 3. The Type 3 is considerably more robust and heavier than the the other two receivers. The cut is straight and a small radius on the Type 1 when viewed from the rear. The Type 2 is slightly more rounded in the radius cut and can be seen when viewed from the rear looking at the recoil plate. Here is a link that has good information. This probably should be moved to the Metric section.

Does anyone remember the type 4 proto types that DSA made up. They were on gun broker for a real steep price a couple years ago. Does anyone have a picture of them?

They had no recess cuts in the carry handle area.
