does anyone on this forum use the 6.8 SPC?
I was wondering if anybody here has experience with 6.8 SPC in the Ar-15, and if you have, what were the accuracy results and how was the perceived recoil.

you will have better results over on Light Fighter - I'd search the topic over there before I'd ask a question unless you are a BTDT type - those guys - if they HAVE used the 6.8, have either used it in a high speed class or they have killed bad guys with it.

I built one .
It shoots one hole @ 100 yds if I do my part. Recoil is very light for a 7.0 lb carbine. |

I like the idea of the 6.8 but what always put me off is the cost of ammo and reloading brass. Last time I checked empty cases were running $300 per K.

I built mine as a harder hitting defense and a medium game hunting carbine.
Being an AR I have similar 5.56 guns I can practice with so I don't need to shoot this one as much. Ask your self this . How many rounds per year do your bolt guns see ? If you reload you can cut the cost in half or less for this cartridge . |

I've had a garage built Ko-tonics for a few years now. One of the most accurate guns I own/owned. Didn't get it to dream about shooting bad guys with. It does however work well on mule deer and antelope. Recoil is just a tad worse than standard AR. I got it at the time for my 12 yr old daughter to hunt with. She probably had 300 or so practice rounds down range in the month before opening day - won't get that with a bolt gun. Similar cost to reload as my FAL.

I have several bolt guns that see that kind of use and more.
However MOST hunters will not put 300 rnds through a bolt gun in its lifetime much less in prep for one hunting season. Most folks do indeed get into the 6.8 for hunting and not bad guys but it remains a superior man stopper as well. Kudos that your daughter gets that kind of range time. Comparing the cost of the 6.8 to other tactical more affordable rounds like the 5.56 is not practical as the 6.8 tends to be shot allot less by MOST shooters. |

I have one, and love it. Nice power, low recoil. I reload to keep the costs down. I do have .223 ar's as well, but wouldn't blink at buying another 6.8.
