Definitive proof that the barrels were lugged..

That rifle should either be in a museum or my closet.

Not positive as the photo and serial number is a model "b' and not an 'a' or 'af'. I have #2660 model 'b'.

Parts w/ original barrel worth $1000?

Pretty sure the PD bought it,..........last year,.......from the importer,........for around $200. I'm also pretty sure they don't have any need for it, but it's a nice way to make a few bucks.

Kinda strange, when you look at the serials on the upper and the lower, it looks like the upper maybe has a "b" suffix but the lower definitely does not.

Also, it appears that whoever transcribed the serial # to the other side of the mag well with the importer's info, wrapped the "EF" selector marking into the serial number. It reads "EF2656".

Was it common for a lugged barrel to take a threaded flash hider?

It was the way that the BGS rifles were made, they took the regular Belgian barrel which was lugged at the time and put flash hiders on them. The BGS rifles were sort of trials rifles for the German Border Police after WW2 and they went through various refinements until the final changes were made and they then became the mass produced G1.

Some of the T-48 trials rifles were the same way. They were built using lugged barrels & the flash hider was added later. My T-48 clone is built that way using an early Belgian lug type barrel. The lug is not in the same position as a later G1 barrel. Several of the parts that come with the BGS kits are "correct" for building a T-48 clone.

J&G Sales has one for sale in their dealer flyer. Looks like a standard G1 non lugged barrel, $950, non civilian sales only. Picture is kinda small, but it looks very clean.

I looked at it on their website and it looks really nice. They have a few photos there.

The prices of these two rifles sure illustrates the principle of supply & demand. Any guesses as to what they would sell for if available to the public?

they are calling it an 18" barrel w/ a long flash hider, but i expect it is a lugged g-1 and they just don't know how to remove the flash hider.

irregardless, it is not a bgs configured barrel, to the best of my knowledge i do not know of a single bgs style lugged barrel barrel w/ bipod cuts to have ever entered into the hands of the common people, unless a batch of these rifles were imported pre barrel ban, i don't think there are any original barrels, let alone matching to a lower, w/ bolt, carrier, and flash hider, and "reciever", i don't know of a way to ever get this reciever into the hands of the common joe, but it would still be something pretty special even if on a u.s. reciever.

if i had to guess this is not the only bgs rifle that entered into the country intact, but i bet the # is very small, in my opinion the best part of this weapon is that it exists intact and has made it into the country legally.

The one at J&G is a standard G1, they have had it for sale for close to a year now.
