DO NOT deal with weeksway1!

A week or so ago I entered into a trade deal with weeksway1 (Chris Weeks) for my M&P45 package (http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showt...postid=3215781). He offered his FAL receiver, kit, two barrels, and misc. extra parts. Even though the receiver was a Century I decided it was fine since I've built a few FAL's on Century's with no problems and the two barrels were the lengths that I've been wanting to play with (16" and a 13"). So we trade, and when I go to pick up the receiver this is what I find:

The receiver is absolutely doused is cheap spray paint to the point that it made a few numbers of the serial hard to read. The magazine release and bolt hold open were practically fused to the receiver (he didn't disassemble anything when he sprayed it). On top of that, the rear of the receiver and lug were very poorly filed on. It pretty bad when my FFL, who's the king of trying to pass of turds as diamonds, says "That looks like dog shit."

I start thinking to myself, "Alright, I was going to refinish anyway, so as long as the other parts are good to go we'll be fine." Then I get home and find the other package on the table, open it up, and here's what I find:

A lot of the parts were either broken or badly messed up with grinds, gouges, or dents all at the same time covered up with that same globed on paint. I go to the barrels to check them out and the 13" barrel is barely holding on to the flash hider by a thread or two and they're metric barrels with Inch gas blocks. On the 16", the gas block actually wobbled side to side and back to front. They also looked like they had been turned down on a grinding wheel:

Yeah, that's right, the original gas port is still present in that 13" barrel; wasn't even attempted to be plugged up by anything. When I contacted him about this whole thing he said he was "insulted" that I didn't feel that this "kit" wasn't worth $750 and that because he gave extras I should be happy. At this point I just want my pistol, holster, and Surefire back, but he's no longer responding to my emails. Let this be a warning to all of you who consider dealing with this man.

Here are the pics he sent me prior to the trade and his offer:

"Here are the pics. The rifle is complete. The only reason I said ill ship it as a kit is cause the upper that's on it in the pic is a short gas setup with 13" barrel and stg flash hider. A fal member cut and threaded the barrel and when i installed it came to 15 3/4 " so I quickly removed it and took to my brothers house. My plans where to remove the flash hider and install one to bring it to legal length. I went a head and purchased the 16 1/4" and standard gas system barrel for the mean time. Ill include both but will not ship them together. If kept with that flash hider it will have to be registered as a sbr. That wasn't my intention so I dismantled it. I wanted to thread the 16" barrel and never got around to it and really don't have the funds to complete it. I have alot of money already into this rifle and hate to let it go. Feel free to ask any questions.

Chris "

I know this doesn't make things any better but I believe they are open ear metric gas blocks.

You're right, they are. I didn't even know there were open ear metrics. Unfortunately only one actually fits on the barrels without wobbling and the one that does fit the ears are bent inward more than the loose one.

Well, at least the receiver locking lug can be built up and refiled/machined. Good luck with the parts. Sorry.

Did that BGS front end come with it? It doesn't look too molested.
I am going to definitely take a lesson away with is OP.
Always get an inspection period in writing when doing trades like this.
That, and REALLY inspect photos before popping on a deal. You can see some of the, ahem, anomolies in those photos, but easy to see why you might have missed them.

Oh I have learned a valuable lesson with all of this. And yes, now that I know what the problems are I can see some of them in the pics he sent. From now on I'm not going to accept blurry and/or far off pics on trades.

And, if you even remotely suspect an area of a kit or such, then ask up front for detailed, up close pics before making the deal. I try to send these ahead of time when I sell something and always tell folks to ask before they buy from me so that they know what they are getting.

Aren't there people here that advocate the use of Krylon Grill paint? Hey, it's just as good as the gun stuff and way cheaper..

So where is this guy located, so that the rest of us can avoid him and/or send hate mail. I tried to search for his user-name and nothing comes up (no post count?).

aint careful FAL files will stand for fraud and liars files, selling one's reputation & honor for a few hundred $ is truly sad, esp for a fal'er. pray for the thief.

Yes, the FAL work and paint job is crappy and he should make thing right, but 4 things I noticed in your pics:
If the damaged carryhandle is on the kit, I have gotten plenty like it.
The weld on the inch break open lever is arsenal repair and common.
The staking on the selector is normal.
I have had to cut "U" grooves in scope mounts to fit optics.

1) I understand that these things come broken in kits, what I was upset about is that I wasn't told it was.

2) The picture of the lever was more to show how thick the globbed on paint was, not the weld.

3) Again, the pic wasn't about the staking, but showing the crappy paint.

4) I'm sure a lot of people have had to, but I would hope that if you went to trade/sell that scope mount down the road you'd mention that you had cut a crooked slot in it. It definitely drops its value towards the trade/sale.

All government, in its essence, is a conspiracy against the superior man: its one permanent object is to oppress him and cripple him. If it be aristocratic in organization, then it seeks to protect the man who is superior only in law against the man who is superior in fact; if it be democratic, then it seeks to protect the man who is inferior in every way against both. One of its primary functions is to regiment men by force, to make them as much alike as possible and as dependent upon one another as possible, to search out and combat originality among them. All it can see in an original idea is potential change, and hence an invasion of its prerogatives. The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is very apt to spread discontent among those who are.
