Enfield-cut Argy receiver for my Argy kit or Coonan?

I purchased an Enfield L1A1 for $900 which was built on an Argy receiver. My goal was to pull the Argy receiver for my Sarco/Argy kit and then sell off the Enfield kit for market price. In retrospect had I been knowledgeable about FALs I may have known this BUT you can see the forward left part of the receiver has been ground down to accommodate the flip down charging handle of the Brit kit. It’s a pretty clean cut but it is there.

The novelty of having a 100% Argentine FAL (albeit compliant) was interesting to me but with it cut like that it pretty much diminishes the point. What would you guys do? Get a Coonan? Keep looking for an Argy receiver that isn’t a million dollars? Go ahead and build as is?

You might consider leaving it as is , and enjoying it for what it is. Been in the same situation. The inch configuration grows on you.

So if you want an Argie that looks original, buy another receiver. Don't bother with the coonan argy cut receiver - get rid of the stupid block that won't let the lower fit without it.

Or if its just metric you want, and I assume that CAI Argy is metric mag well or we wouldn't be having this discussion, then build a metric with no carry handle, a slow-cat filler, non-bipod cut handguards, 17" barrel, keep the folding cocking handle, and then you'll have a real fighting rifle instead of something for display.

I would be very happy to buy the upper if you do decide to sell it.

Perhaps some confusion here. The rifle pictured is an Enfield L1A1 on an Argentine receiver (FMAP is not indicated). It is not built by Century and I cannot find any builder/import marks anywhere. I was going to use it as a source of an Argentine receiver for my Argy kit.

I was considering not using the receiver from this rifle after all and just getting a Coonan/Argy #3 receiver and joining it to my Sarco/Argy kit. HOWEVER as you suggest I am tending towards steering away from replicating an Argy. I didn't think I could keep the Enfield cocking handle and put it on the Argy kit.

So maybe I DO pull the Argy receiver off the Enfield kit, keep that fold-down cocking handle and use these to build my Sarco kit.

What is a slow-cat filler?

Argy Receiver # is 1346. Will add it to aezcur's list

Member slo-cat here makes a very nice filler for the space that will be left when you ditch the carry handle.

Various folks here make them...

I agree... remove the carry handle and put the Argy receiver on the Sarco kit. Keep the fold-down charging handle.

An Argy kit NEEDS and Argy receiver.

Slo cat is going to be out of them for a couple/few months. I looked at that thread. Did anyone else ever turn out to make a good fitting steel one? I will have it finished with the build.
