What's a fair price for a DSA 16 inch Steyr barrel these days?
It's unfired with gas block attached and was bought from DSA around 2000 or so, in the dark times before the ban sunset, so it has a DSA short brake tack welded on it.
I have a giant box of FAL stuff that has just been sitting and I can figure out what most of it is going for these days, but I'm not having any luck with the barrel. Anybody have any idea? |

I picked one up recently on gunbroker for $150.00. It is 17 1/2" including and integral flash hider (machined into the barrel, not attached).

Actually I just measured it, and it's 18 inches. It's a Steyr hammer forged barrel shortened and threaded by DSA, not one of the button-rifled ones with integral brake like they used to sell.
I think I paid more than $150 for it back then. Maybe I should just hold onto it. |

People come on here every week it seems wanting to cut their original full length barrels down. I would think you could get at least what you paid for it if not a bit more.

That would be back when DSA still had premo condition Steyr barrels.
Maybe about $ 125 back when you bought it ? I would think about $200-$250 if the bore is as good as was typical then. That is, near new with no pitting, etc. Does the muzzle device have a silvery band at the rear ? If so, it is 1100 degree silver solder and NOT weld. DSA silver soldered their muzzle devices. A MAPP gas torch will make short work of that solder. |

I know it's a weld, because I tack welded it there.
![]() It's a light tack, no big deal to remove, but back then it had to be there to be legal. I did about 20 barrels at once. Yeah, back then the new DSA STG-58's all had Steyr barrels. (And some people thought DSA recievers were junk compared to an Imbel because they were "unproven". LOL.) I think I paid $150ish for the barrel and maybe $40 for the brake. I can't remember. |
