ATF Director Says Holder Obstructing 'Fast and Furious' Probe

The Justice Department is obstructing the congressional investigation of a U.S. law enforcement operation intended to crack down on major weapons traffickers on the Southwest border, according to the embattled leader of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Ken Melson, the acting director of the ATF, lobbed the accusation when he sneaked in for an interview with congressional investigators on July 4, two days ahead of his scheduled interview with the inspector general about the operation known as "Fast and Furious," Fox News has learned.

"If his account is accurate, then ATF leadership appears to have been effectively muzzled while the DOJ sent over false denials and buried its head in the sand," Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said in a letter Tuesday to Attorney General Eric Holder. "That approach distorted the truth and obstructed our investigation."

The Justice Department is reportedly looking to oust Melson, who has been acting ATF director since April 2009, as the agency deals with its biggest scandal in nearly two decades. Andrew Traver, who was tapped in November by President Obama to become the permanent ATF director, could be named as acting director until the Senate acts on his nomination, sources have said.

Yesterday, Acting ATF Director Kenneth Melson answered questions from Rep. Darrell Issa and Senator Charles Grassley surrounding Operation Fast and Furious. Melson voluntarily participated in the interview and appeared with personal counsel, meaning although the Justice Department has prohibited Melson to testify before Congress on behalf of the DOJ about the scandal, he can in fact come forward with information as an individual informant outside of the DOJ and separate from DOJ interests.

In a letter sent to Attorney General Eric Holder, Issa and Grassley expressed disappointment in the DOJ limiting and controlling Melson's communication and interaction with Congress surrounding the scandal but called the information Melson presented yesterday "extremely helpful," to the investigation.

Melson revealed the scope of Operation Fast and Furious reaches far beyond ATF and the Justice Department. He said the FBI, DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) and other agencies were heavily involved.

I really hope this guy realizes that he's now "ALL - IN " and shines the light where it belongs.
I agree with Haney bout them not eating their own BUT mabey mellson has'nt been part of the "in-crowd" in barry's big picture and KNOWS IT.
I pray that he has Alot of CYA , now in the senators hands, implicating holder and his pretender boss, not to forget field marshal nepalatono.
I have contacted all my reps demanding criminal charges and a special prosecutor, ALL OF YOU , please do the same.
As a tactician ,I smell blood,lets see if we can open the wound a bit. if there's enough blood in the water, some media types might not be able to help themselves and say something. also enough heat will make the commie in charge to come up with MORE LIES and its the lies to congress, as well as the origional bone headed scam that we should slam home to the pols.and prosecute for.

Our pretender in cheif has thus far managed to get away with anything he wants, I don't think this is going to do him any political damage. One hand clapping, in a normal world, your scenerio would seem to be a logical conclusion, but we don't live in a normal world anymore.

I believe a revolution and a bloody one is the only solution to this crisis to put the power of our government back into the peoples hands. The few real patriotic American politicians will be rewarded if they survive and the Marxist-Communist infiltrators of both partys with Obama and his minions standing trial in the future and be hung on a gallows built specifically for them. No more PC--no more whiny liberals--only liberty and justice! This will be in the future and a bloody path will be required to get there. I see no way out--elections and voting have been tainted beyond repair. The Tree of Liberty will soon be watered with blood.

Hey, that's a great idea. Now that the Casey Anthony trial is over I've got a lot of time on my hands...let me know when you want to start it. Oh, but it will need to be over by the first of the month so I can go spend my benefits check at Wal Mart.
