Picked up my new Imbel DSA and...
Just picked up my new Imbel DSA yesterday, haven't got a chance to fully inspect it yet, but the first thing I noticed is the rear sight:
Is the rear sight supposed to be loose, I mean the whole damn thing just wiggles left to right ??? Is this normal in DSA rifles ?? |

Are the sight screws on each side tightened?

Looking down the sights, on the left side in a knurled button about the size of a number 2 pencil earser, if you depress this you should be able to slide the slide from the 2 to the 6 up the ramp. You will have indentions that the pin should spring back and set into the indentions, if this does NOT happen it will remain loose.
IF you can feel the spring load and unload tension as you depress the button then you need to "TIGHTEN the upper portion of the sight. IF you have NO spring tention, you either have a dirty collasped spring, broken spring, or NO spring. There are a few easy fixes for this. To answer you question shortly......NO it should NOT be loose! Try a search for loose rear sights, if that don't work someone will be along soon to instruct you how to remove top portion and tighten! I will take a look at it again when I get home later on today, I tried to figure out if I can make it "lock" yesterday and was unsuccessful.
I am a bit surprised that it came like this from the factory though. |

They are used parts.
Yes, the ap may be sloppy on the base.

Remove one or both sight screws and tap or push sight base off of lower.
Remove sight retaining pin from sight base and slide sight forward and off. Clean and examine detent and spring and install a steel ball sized .025 " in bottom of detent spring hole and reassemble sight to lower. If sight remains loose after spring shim procedure, implement phase II of sight tightening operation. Phase II will be revealed upon further review of aspirant's capability. |

Remove one or both sight screws and tap or push sight base off of lower.
Replace with rear Para sight. Reinstall sight screw(s). Problem fixed. |

this sight looks new, I don't think it's a used one.
by the way I tried playing with it, and it seems like when it locks in the notches it becomes even more unstable |

There is often some wobble to the apperture leaf on the FAL rear sight. Probably nothing is "wrong" with your rear sight assembly, it's just part of a design with a pretty big range of tolerances.
I doubt the sight assembly of your rifle is new. These rifles were assembled from parts kits from used rifles. The parts were refinished before the rifle was put together by DSA. Oddly, the wobble doesn't seem to affect accuracy much unless the sight is really bad. I think the blade "flops" back into about the same spot after each shot.

Now I am getting confused.
I am sure somebody has one of these rifles, or at least this kind of rear sight. |

There will be some play in it.. some people have "pinched" the sides of the sight base on the rail to get them a little tighter but...
Here is a vid of mine.. all of my metrics are about the same. ![]() Even with the "wobbly" rear sight this is still my best shooting FAL.. I know it can shoot better than I can at the moment.

Great thanks, that's what I was looking for, and the video clip............
I guess I'll leave as is if it doesn't really have any effect on the accuracy. Thanks again. |

I tightened up the rear sight on my first Imbel. I tried gently (and I mean gently) squeezing the sight base in a vise. Then, I cut a small piece of sheet-metal to fit in the detent spring hole (not having the required sized steel ball), and replaced the spring on top of this spacer. It sure tightened up my sight. Might be worth a try...
