I'm surprised it hasn't already been done. Coonan has the best combination of reliability, quality, delivery speed, and customer service of all the rec manufacturers IMO.

As far as I am concerned the ONLY thing they have NOT done yet is talked about the type II's. I guess that is not 100% correct, they have talked about it but I do not think they feel it is enough interest in the TYPE II's to make it cost effective to produce at this time. Although I do believe they do see these post and threads I also believe the BEST way to have them recognize the potential desire for a specific receiver is to call them, tell them what you would like to see. I can call them daily and give my thoughts and opinions BUT my thoughts and opinions do NOT sell receivers! X10 to EMBATP's idea having them setup in the vendors area! LaC

At that time it seems that if ANYONE would make any type NEGATIVE comment about DSA here they would be whipped with a CAT of NINE TAILS! Well nevertheless things and times change.....and it has! I don't think this thread was designed to bash ANYONE or any company, just as embatp has stated in the past, "WE NEED ALL the COMPANIES we can get to be involved and STAY involved in our HOBBY" As far as I am concerned I would love to see these various companies thrive on EXCELLENT products and services. Now back to the OP. What has to be done and who decides if COONAN gets their own section within the VENDOR SECTION? Are there special requirements? Thanks! LaC

coonan
Unless it were donated free of charge I don't see why they would. It is a needless expense when they are swamped with orders and work anyway. Why spend $$$ on promotional items when business is great anyway? Their phones are surely ringing off the hook as it is.
Would it be nice to see them here? Sure. Does it make sense from their perspective? I'm not sure it does.

Fire off a request to Jen and ask her to put up a Coonan forum. Unless they are a contributor, I dont know if it will happen, but it doesnt hurt to ask. At the very least we can get a sticky thread here in this forum.
ETA, I made it a sticky. This shall now be the official Coonan thread untill other arrangements are made for a vendor's forum for Coonan.

They only make one product.. receivers. I don't see how a dedicated Coonan forum would pay off for anyone and I don't see the need for it. Coonan has always been responsive to emails and they have an active Facebook page so if you have a question for them just send them an email. People don't even visit the existing vendor forums.

Well guys here it is! My first Matching serial numbers receiver! And it is NOTHING short of PERFECTION!!!
I add some white just to show the detail of the engraving/stamp. Let me also say the attention to detail on these receivers are EXCELLENT!! The dark finish is also PERFECT!! Just not sure there is anything at all I would change if I were doing these myself!!!

Hoping Dan or Dave will see this and maybe reply...... Can we get confirmation that COONAN will do a StG-58 stamped receivers? Also will you do the R1 Stamp
Such as the one pictured below? I heard there were some issues with the UM but what about the UPPER CASE LETTER MM instead of the Lower case as pictured in the lower pic? ![]() ![]() THANK YOU for ALL you have done for the FAL rifles as well as us guys here on the FAL FILES!! LaC

Don't foget Dan Coonan makes the best AK receivers available ... Dan Coonan is somewhat of a legend in our time ... way beyond AK's and FAL's ... it would be nice to have them represented here and maybe Dan could stop by sometime ...

We have had a few laughs about certain post and threads here lately! BUT you are right, I feel COONAN should try and have someone there spend a little more time checking in and saying HI. Although I don't know who......they would have to hire someone, I think they are all doing the job they have assigned PLUS the owrk of 2 or 3 others! Connie and I are working on a Special CLone right now!.........It's a "CONNIE CLONE" that young lady works her behind off and does one heck of a JOB!! LaC

Could be off here, but I don't think that Coonan has anything to do with the AKs anymore. That was harlan's project, but Dan had the manufacturing license. Wehn NODAK got their own facilities, Harlan marked them as Nodak and not DCI. YUou should also note that Dan Coonan Industries and Coonan Inc. are different companies. Different FFLs. Different manufacturing licenses.
As to a separate vendor forum - I don't see anything to be gained by it. If people want to be heard, they post in general discussion, not some obscure sub forum

I recently ordered an argintine receiver from coonan with a custom serial number. Three days later I got an e-mail saying it was shipped and giving me a tracking number. I originally spoke with Connie she was very helpful and knowledgeable. These are some of the best people you will ever deal with.

WDJ, you are dead on! Super people there at Coonan, about the only person I have yet to speak with there is the floor sweeper, and from the way I gather that is probably anyone there from Connie at the top to who ever is at the bottom! They are ALL some SUPER PEOPLE and a PLEASURE to deal with!!

I'm new to this group but, I must say the customer service at Coonan is great. They also give Fal Files Forum members a $25 discount off FNFAL receiver orders.

Coonan Lead time
I just recently ordered an Argy reciever from Coonan and thought I pass along some information I was given. They were/are having problems obtaining quality castings and are currently advising a 6 to 8 week backorder status. Nice people to deal with, and more than willing to honor the FAL Files member discount, but I'm gonna go crazy waiting that long! Just thought you guys would like to know.

Coonan R1 Upper (type 1.5)
I just exchanged emails with Coonan today on the subject of completing an order for a Type 2 receiver, but with the proper lightening cuts to make it a Type 1.5 for my Rhodie rifle.
They still don't offer the option of making a receiver with the Type 1.5 cuts. When I recieve the Type 2 from them, I'm going to have to attempt the machining myself to make it into a Type 1.5. |

Is it just me or did the early Coonan type 1's have a different lock-up angle?
Had one that required a little modification but everything else was GTG. Turned out to be quite a shooter . . .

Received email from Coonan today. Looks like the current crop of receivers are sold out and about 8-12 weeks for the next batch.

Coonan reciever
Well I got my argie kit assembled on my Coonan argie receiver, but I think I might have a problem someone has reported previously. After only about 100 rounds thru the rifle it looks like the ejector tip is being "hammered" into a rounded shape. The rifle is more accurate than I had been expecting, with groups using my handloads leaving a single ragged hole at 30 yards for 5 shots. I know, it's not a 100 yds. but that's all I can get in my backyard. I just don't think I should be seeing this much wear so early. I can't see sending the rifle, or even the barreled action to Coonan, so I'm wondering if I can just remove the ejector block and swap it out? It's a one piece unit. so it's not that big of a deal.

I also have had one on order since late Feb. I was told 6 - 8 weeks at that time, but it's been 13 weeks now. I talked to Connie yesterday, and she told me that she had my receiver in her hand Thursday and the latest batch was being sent to be parkerized within hours and should be shipped next Wednesday. I hope the huge backlog doesn't mean they're rushing them through. I don't mind s much waiting for quality, but I'd hate to end up waiting 14 weeks waiting and end up with problems. From everything I've read Coonan's quality is great, so I'm trusting that part of my wait is because they won't compromise the quality.

1st receiver all was fine, cc was good, ffl was good, delivery was a little slow but that was okay.....2nd was a total dick up from jump street, if Coonan has manufactor 2nd's I got one, trouble is they knew of the receiver problem before shipping, then said "don't worry the build should be okay, if not we"ll replace it"..I guess the next one will be DSA..Customer service is one on one, eith help if needed..
