Advice: Sold rifle to out of stater...
I got his money order just fine. Yet his FFL says that to transfer ownership he needed a copy of my DL (which he got) but that I (seller) didn't need a copy of the buyers FFL, even though I am shipping this out of state.
What gives? I thought I needed a copy of the FFL's license of whom I'm sending this to (?) Any insights here guys?

You don't need a copy of his FFL. All you really need is the first three and the last five numbers of his FFL and you can check it on the BATFE FFLeZCheck site to see if he's for real.
FFL holders are funny creatures and most won't hand out a copy of their license. Recently i was told by several FFL holders that the BATFE advised them not to hand out their license because of the mexican cartel's etc. Whether this is true or not i don't know, i'm just stating what i was told. |

A non-FFL does not need a copy of the "ship to" FFL by law. Only FFL dealers need a copy to ship. That being said, you still need to make sure you are shipping to a legitimate FFL to protect yourself. He should be willing to just give you first 3 and last 5 so you can check.

I would rather have a copy of the receiving FFL's license in the box along with my DL copy. That's the way I do it.
If the customer insists, the FFL is legit, and you've been paid, tell the buyer to send you a signed fax with the instructions on how he wants you to ship his rifle. That way if the box is opened halfway there, inspected and found wonting in the FFL copy department, and there's gonna be bacon getting scraped off someones back it won't be yorn.
