Wolf primers are a pita
Loaded a few hundred 45 ACP with Wolf primers. First experience with them since I purchased a few years ago.
Some feel loose, some go in hard, some don't seat fully even with multiple tries with seater.* I was wondering if I was just crazy. I then seated some of same brass, on same press with Winchester Large Pistol. Went in smooth as butter as per usual. I will see if this ammo works OK. If it doesn't I will at least get some practice in clearing malfunctions. My bottom line: I have vowed not to get caught without good Winchester or CCI primers in the future! *Brass: 5X very mixed headspace. Reloader: Dillon progressive. Not a problem with crud in machine or primer pockets.

A bud and I picked up some WOLF SR primers last year to try out.. Since then we have prolly run through about 4K and not had a single problem. In fact we liked them enough to take advantage of a sale MIDWAY (I think MIDWAY) had going on last week and bought a bunch more. He delivered mine yesterday so I'll prolly get into those and save all the FED and REM I have in stock for later..
As far as the LP there has been some discussion about those and in fact the same/similar problem as yours was encountered while loading .45 ACP. Not sure what is causing this, is it a prob with the size of the prmer or a is it the variance from brand to brand with the brass? In this bunch of primers I just got there is 1K of the LP I bought just to try out. Don't need any .45 ACP loaded right now but mebe I'll try some in .44 Mag and see what happens?

I did not have a size issue but found them (LPP) to be very hard and would not ignite reliably with a stock G21. The work in a Ruger Redhawk and other hammer fired guns.
With Wolf SPP I had a few duds in 10k, but with SPM I had no issues at all. When I have a choice I get Fed then CCI then Rem - Win are above Wolf. |

To me the Wolf Small Rifle 223, and Wolf Large Rifle is as good as anything out there.

The large rifle primers work great in all my curio and relics.
The small pistol have always went bang in my Model 22 , but the same ammo in my friends Taurus failed to fire on the first strike around 5 % of the time.

I had similar experience with CCI large pistol primers last year. I had a terrible time seating them and got to thinking it was the brass, then the Lee priming tool and then I grabbed some Winchester large pistol primers and they went in smooth as normal.
Just some manufacturing issues I guess. They go bang at least. |

I did the same thing last year too. With the shortage of Winchester primers, I bought some Wolf SR primers to use for practice and save the Winchesters for racing.
I think the primer cups may not be a consistent hardness. I've had a few that were stubborn and one true dud so far in about 2500. Lot number 14-09. They were -available- and, at the time, less expensive. They aren't Winchesters.
