The Judge that was shot was "famous".

Roger Barnett, an AZ rancher had captured 12,000 illegal aliens over the years.

MALDEF, a communist org, sued Barnett for violating the civil rights of 16 border crossing illegals, who Barnett apprehended in 2004, on his own land, at a water well.

Barnett asked that this insane suit be dismissed in 2008.
Judge Roll allowed the suit to go forward, citing that Barnett had violated their civil rights.

In Feb 2009, the Jury found Judge Roll in error, in their opinion.

The Federal Jury in Rolls courtroom, found Roger Barnett only liable for causing emotional distress on a group of 16 ILLEGAL TRESSPASSING ALIENS. How the hell that got decided is beyone me, but... gave the illegals $78,000.

The jury also decided that Barnett did NOT violate the civil rights of the illegals, nor was he guilty of asault and battery, or false imprisonment--he had a right to arrest them after all!!
So the verdict seems a little funny.

It was NOT funny to Judge Roll.

The illegals were represented by MALDEF sued for $32 million in damages The jury said Barnett would be liable for $78,000 for emotional distress, even though he was NOT guilty of arresting them or illegally imprisoning them.

Juries write their own ticket and thoroughly pissed off Judge Roll---- and somehow came up with $78,000 for emotional damages--probably because Roll told them they had to.

I'm not sure how such an investment will pay for itself. At some point you'll need to go to a more efficient process due to the scale of the operation. I hear the Germans developed just such a business model.
