FN49 Gas Question - Luxembourg
Shot the Lux for the first time today, using CMP M2 Ball ammo. Everything shot fine, and it was very accurate. My only concern was that, even with the gas port cranked all the way open, it was still flinging out empties about 10 to 12 feet. It was not even close to not locking back on the last round either.
Is this an ammo situation, or is this usually the case with the .30-06 varieties? Thanks!

Have you checked the condition of the main spring?

Yep, check the recoil springs first. If they're old, it's not a bad idea to get new ones.

So you're saying new springs would slow down the rearward travel speed of the bolt carrier, and the empties would not fly as far? I guess that makes sense. It would also increase the resistance to "locking back", so more gas would have to be diverted by closing down the gas port.
