Garand for my brother
Years ago when my brother left for Japan he put his car up for sale. Bigger is Better here had a garand up for sale. J liked my garand, and so a deal was struck- I gave him the rifle I was buying from Aaron as half payment for his car.
Around the same time I ordered a fancy maple wood stock set from Deans Gun Restorations. I sat on both the stock set (which I intended to use for myself) and the rifle for some time. Last summer I sold my Garand (still crying over it) and so a while back my eye fell on J's rifle sitting forlornly in the back of the safe. Meanwhile, the unfinished stock set I'd ordered had been out to Blue Monster for some finish, and was sitting idle itself waiting for a home. I refinished the rifle and fit it with the new extra fancy maple. I'm quite pleased with it. I put pics up on J's facebook page so he and all his AF buddies could drool over it, and unfortunately due to my crashed drive at home I had to rip the smaller pics back off facebook to post here. I guess they're big enough. The best part is that while J is overseas, all his guns live with me! Can't have that stuff in Japan, or Korea, and who knows about Italy. I guess I'll have to baby sit it for another 4 years. Terrible. Good looking Garand. Enjoy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Frickin' awesome, Adam. What did you use on the gas cylinder? Looks like a good match.
Kudos to Blue, too, on the refinish of the stock. Beautiful wood. |

The stainless gas parts are actually just flat black, but there are some tricks to getting it totally matte to match the park.
Yeah Bill, I need one with the extra fancy walnut to go with this maple one. I think I'll build mine in 308 though. Or maybe 35 Whelen!! Yeah, where do I find a 35 Whelen Garand barrel, anybody know? And anyone interested in a 55 Danish barrel? I got a barreled action I want to build.

Outstanding! All Garands should look like that. I might have to look for that kind of stock.
For your Garand barrel, try Krieger, they make them in several configurations, and I'd bet in several calibers. Dan |

The wood is too fancy. Might as well chrome the metal to make it a parade rifle.

I miss the days of Deans "extra" fancy walnut stocks. Were much cheaper than the current "medium" grade. That was only three years ago.... Apparently, the really nice stuff has become so expensive that DGR cannot afford to touch it (based upon phone conversation two years back). SUX!!!

Adam, if you can do this to a rifle stock, I believe you have it in you to build truly beautiful furniture, e.g., desk, cabinets, armoire...You have the skill...You just have to learn how to do the joints, and fitting.
