Type C stock ferrule...
I need help again guys. I'm not doing well with the search function. If a Type C means Belgian I assume that's metric? So when I see C1 butt plate with Type C stock what is that telling me? Does the fact that a stock has the metal ferrule on it limit it's use to certain lowers? I thought C1 was Canadian and therefore inch. Is there something about FALs that I can read to learn this stuff?

a type c buttstock is metric, has a ferrule and either a trapdoor or non trapdoor buttplate....can be used on all metric lowers except type a which requires a type a stock.....
c1 usually does mean canadian, however i think the c1 rifles used a buttplate that was similiar to the g1 buttplate that had a trapdoor.... look in the reference section for stocks etc..... |

embatp got it right. I think what is confusing you is a confluence of terminology. A Canadian C1 buttstock is indeed inch, and will never utilize a metal ferrule. However, the C1 type buttplate is a very close version of a standard metal metric buttplate ( in this case, it has a butt trap and thus looks like the type of plate used on G1s, for example) and will fit a wood metric stock of any type perfectly, including the type C stock. In this case the two Cs don't really have any particular common significance.

Thanks very much for getting me on track here guys. I'm making steady progress turning 3 bags of parts into 3 rifles. One is ready to shoot. When the surgeon gives me a clean bill of health I'll be taking it to the range to try it out. In all likelihood I'll have build #2 finished by then and test fire it at the same time. Interpreting all the FAL lingo and variants has been mind boggling at times. Thanks for all the help. Bob

If you think the letter code is confusing, wait till somebody starts using the model number system - 50.00, 50.64, 50.53 etc.
