Yes they will count as 3 US parts.

Neonnoodle, not sure what your questions are?

I do not know how much they will weigh but they should be considerably lighter than the steel mags. Soon as I get the finished product I will post the weight.

I'd most likely try a few if they end up being 20 round capacity.

Not really interested in 25 or 30 round mags, though...

Waiting on the final quote from the Injection molder.

+1 (well, +5) on 25-rounders for me, more eventually if they are high quality.

There are lots of 20-rd surplus mags available, and DSA is working on theirs; distinguish yourself from them.

30-rd is too unwieldy and heavy, and I understand that when fully loaded the pressure of the top round on the bottom of the bolt can cause cycling problems.

While I personally really like the cosmetics of a curved mag in the FAL, first consider carefully how well they would work in an RFB. A curve might bring the front of the magazine too close to the rear of the grip to be easily inserted and removed. Curved would also be harder to find pouches for.

+1 on embossing the markings for the witness holes and letting the buyer drill them if they want.

Here's hoping you get an OEM contract with Kel-Tec!

I'd personally prefer 20rd mags. This would be an awesome development, I've been dreaming of polymer FAL mags for a while.

I actually did see the Scar heavy mag today as a matter of fact and did notice and examine the polymer follower. I was at the NRA show that was here in Charlotte.
I also talked to Rock River arms about there polymer FAL mags they are working on and the guy told me they will not work in an FAL because they are not gonna have the beak on the front of the mag. This was after I noticed they have a channel milled in their receiver that renders the beak useless when used in their gun, so I asked will your new polymer mags have the beak, and he said no and I said so they won't work in a FAL then and he said they were making the mags for their gun not FAL's! I smiled and said thank you. hehehehe

Ya, I was at that show also... the scar H mag was way more similiar than I was expecting. Why mess with a good design I guess. They would sell more mags for the fal than the rock rivers gun if they would just stick the beak on there.

Oh, stopped by the DSA booth took and look at their fal's ask about their mags.

Yeah the SCAR H mag body seemed to be an exact (almost exact) copy of a FAL mag but with the cutout for the AR type mag release, no beak and no rear locking tab used for the FAL mag release.
Looked to me like FAL mags could be converted to fit but wouldnt know for sure until I tried it.

I only had a little over an hour at the show and didn't get over to DSA's booth but I have heard the same quote about when their steel mags will be ready.

Got the quote today.
Next step is drawing up the prints and making the CAD program.

8 to 10 weeks is the time frame for the molds to be made once the CAD is ready.
I didn't think it would take that long but I guess that is the normal time frame.

Yeah it's not like I don't have enough steel and alloy mags! Now polymer mags! I am in for 10 maybe 20! I guess if my Mag to rifle ratio gets blown out of proportion I could always just get another rifle or two!
Johnny, I am sure you have many offers on the table BUT just in case......If you need a field tester before they go into production feel free to send me a couple, I would be glad to put them thru a battery of field test for you!

With the 20 rounders I am assuming they will fit into a 30 cal ammo can just as the steel and alloy?

Thanks Johnny

Hey Johnny! How goes it? I would be up for several of these for my rifle and the 2 extra parts over the floorplate would be cool. Dark Gray 25 rounders would be my preference.
I will be happy to help test these, just let me know.

Moses:

Have you been following the developments in quad-stack mags for the AR and AK platforms?

The critical bits are patented, so you probably won't be able to do something like that without some innovation on your part. Any thoughts?

I haven't heard or seen of the quad stacked mags until you just brought it up.

I am far enough into the progress that I am gonna concentrate on the more traditional style mags.

I have a first preliminary model CAD of the magazine finished and I am very pleased with how it looks.
I am supposed to meet with the guy who is engineering the making of the molds Monday.

This is a long process but I am making progress!

Trying to do everything right and make a high quality functional FAL mag.

The guy I am working with on the Cad print went out of town for 10 days but we are almost finished with the design/cad, basically just have the follower and floor plates and some of the internal dimensions of the mag body to finish.

I really think you guys are gonna love the way the mag looks!

Moses,

Have not been on the files in a while, work and politics have kept me busy...but I saw this and had to add my .02....

Preferred size 20 rounds to fit existing FAL webgear. I'd be curious to see how much bigger than a 20 a 25 is though...

Looks: Make it look as much like a PMAG as possible without getting sued by Magpul...

I like Warrior Poet's idea of making them translucent like a AUG mag.

The 25 rd mags would be a little over 1.375 longer than a 20 rd mag.

I am probably a little biased but I think my design is actually a little better looking than a Pmag.

No translucent mags to start with maybe down the road, the reason is the material used to make translucent mags are not as durable as the non translucent, I have done a lot of research into this and no matter what you have heard I have found that translucent polymers do not hold up well to solvents or sun and are not as durable.

Moses, have been "out of the loop" on this. I admire the effort that you are putting into this project........Are you considering a "pull" type floor plate? My vote is for a 25 rounder as the 30's although cool, are a little long for the prone as well as added weight.......Your talents will prevail!!!!!

Salt............

The floor plates will not have a pull tab, the floorplate will be slightly enlarged for easier grabbing though.
The first mags will be 20 rd mags and if things go well I will be doing some 25 rounders.
I had wanted to do both but without doing a pre-pay or something like that I will not have the funds to have the other mold made and I do not want to do a pre-pay deal.
