If they are PMAG quality, I would be interested in ten...maybe more after I tested/proved them out.

Thumbs up

I voted 5, but I'd probably buy more.

Inch, metric, or both? It seems (to my uneducated manufacturing sense) that it might be fairly easy to figure a way to use the same molds, but have a one-time install of the beak or lip.

I'd be more interested in 25 round mags. DSA will get their 20s right one day, and that might be sooner rather than later. Kel-tec is probably working on something for their bullpup. One of the AR guys is supposed to have 20 rd FAL mags soon for their AR10ish thingee.

I like the ribs on the P mags. Much more secure than checkering, or stippling, or anything else I can think of. But, I'm no expert, so YMMV.

Just some random thoughts. Feel free to use or discard at will. No consulting fee required.

Keep in mind the Rock river Arms LAR-8 was designed to take FAL mags. There will be a demand there. Myself, I'd be interested in 25 & 30 round magazines at this time

I'm interested in at least 5...

20's would be nice but 25's would really kick ass IMO. 30's would be a nice addition too if possible.

Let me know which mags you would prefer, 20 rd, 25 rd or 30 rd.

And to the people who have asked yes these mags would count as 3 US parts towards 922r.

I would say as there are fewest 25rd mags available that a 25rd FAL mag would be the largest niche to fill. Second priority would be 30rd followed by 20rd.

For me, 25rd mags would be most desirable. FWIW.

Yep. I've got more surplus mags than I care to admit, but I'd still be in for five for this reason. I guess 25 rds, just to differentiate them from the 20's and 30's I've already got.

Mags Capacity

Go 30 Rounders. FWIW, A lot of folks like me will use the plentiful 20s we have we know work and for "originality" in many cases also on some of the FALs styles. I would buy some to many 30s for the carbine size Fals if the reliabilty was there. I use my L4 Metric 30s with no issues yet on the ones I have and would buy more 30s for the short FALs. Curved 30s look wicked on short rifles. Hope ya don`t go overboard on looks. 30s for me. My 2 cents.. If they work reliably I`ll buy some of whatever ya make to help out, Best on the Project!

I say just go 20 rounders.

I guess if you were designing your own springs as well, I'd say go for 20+ max capacity. Lots of guys only toss 18 in the 20 rounders so a 22 rounder would sound about right for keeping max crunch off the springs and still maintaining regular capacity.

As far as loading more than 20 in a mag, I'm of the opinion that the rifle is heavy enough as it is loaded with a steel 20.

I'm in for five unless they are 30 rounders, in which case I'm in for zero.

I have no problem with 30rd FAL mags, and in a pinch one can use rollover prone, urban prone, modified prone or prone-supported (high-prone rested). So no, in my opinion they are not useless. They may be a little more awkward for it but its still doable. Plus, I have freakishly long arms so I can actually get into regular prone with 30's without a problem.

They aren't for everyone, but I still think there should be more options for everyone. 20rds are nice, but I think 25rds would be great in that they'd still likely fit most web gear / LBE's that AK and AR mags fit without being too long. 30's are sort of a different animal in that regard as they are harder to find fitting LBE pouches and so forth.

Maybe moses should start a new poll? Preference regarding 20, 25 or 30rd mags being made.

I am probably going to do 20 and 25 rd mags, seems like there is enough people wanting the 25 rounders.

Unless your inch gun is finicky these should work in them.

My inch gun doesn't have a problem with using metric mags.

Also how many people want witness holes on the mags like Steyr?
So you can see the round count.

Witness holes would be nice, but not if it costs more. Windows (ala Pmag) would be nicer, and worth a few bucks more.

I'll take some no matter what.

My 2¢.

I wouldn't want holes. It would be easy for you to drill them in a jig as a later operation for those that did.

Retractable punches on a mold would be one more thing to have to mess/have trouble with.

Windows would be cool, but not worth a lot to me.

Windows are too costly and a lot of trouble in the moulding process, I already discussed it with the injection moulder. BTW I have a pmag that the window moved while being made and it is diagnol instead of vertical. Also not sure if the window is part of the Pmag patent.

If there is enough interest for the witness holes the mold will be made so they can be added or not added during the molding process.

I think maybe put marks on the back of the mag where one could drill out for witness holes if they wanted, shouldn't be too hard with a basic drill once the mag is disassembled.

So no, I wouldn't personally want default witness holes but having pre-marked numbers 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 with little starter-divots or "x's" next to them (as a mark of where to drill) would be a best option.

And if adding those marks is too much work or cost, I'd just go without them and if I ever did want them, I'd personally measure cartridge offset with masking tape and drill my own holes where I wanted (and used that mag as a template for the other's).

I think this is very good. I will probably get a two or three of both at least, provided they aren't way more expensive for the 25 rounders.

I only want witness holes if I can actually witness something through them. Otherwise, no.

Witness holes are a good place for dirt to get into the magazine. I don't want them. I don't know if P-Mag has a patent on the mag window, but they are not the first to do it. From this thread started by Paco- http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showt...hreadid=285955

Where do you think the P mags got there ideas from

I'll see i can find a picture.

If the mags were moulded in clear or smoke.......then the end-user could mask any areas they want to keep clear/smoke and then paint the rest of the mag........and there you have it - custom designed "windows"/"witness holes".

Additionally, the end-user could paint the follower some shade of bright-neon-whatever, which would really stand out through the poly window.

I'm not suggesting that this run of mags be done in clear/smoke (and I think I read somewhere that clear/smoke poly items degrade faster or aren't as durable for whatever reason) but maybe in a later run a small batch (if economically feasable) could be made for those who'd like to play with that idea.

I talked to the moulders and I can do different colors and possibly a clear later down the road if there is enough interest.

I posted previously, but I wanted to say that 20s or 25s. No 30s for me.

Edited to add: I would probably buy 1 or 2 30s to see what that was all about.

Peace.

5 20's to start. Probably 10-15 more if they work as well as 5.56 Pmags.

Don't care for witness holes or windows. My vest holds 20 rd'ers. Would only be interested in a 25 rd mag as a novelty.

If they were offered in OD that would be a big plus.

Moses, I voted as being in for 5, but that's just a guess. I'd want 20s to start, probably all 20's.

I love the PMags for my ARs...I have over 20 of them for the two ARs I own, if that's any indication of what I might eventually acquire for the FAL.

I'd be curious to find out how you handle the front locking lug design on the new mag before going hog wild buying many, though. Some of the polymer AK mags have been problematic here. On the other hand, I think there may be some room for improvement over the original steel metric mag here.

Also, it will be interesting to see if you do anything similar to the cover that MagPul provides with their PMags that takes tension off the feedlips. I've never been quite sure if these things are really of any practical help wrt the feed lips, or what.

As far as the surface, ribs, etc., I'm sure whatever you come up will be fine. Just so long as it is dead nuts reliable (in feeding, retention, and durability), grips well enough, and doesn't snag in carrying pouches, I don't care too much how a mag looks.
