What's wrong with this picture?

Check out Auction Arms listing number 9614910. I think someone's been smoking something.

Under a grand, that's a steal! It could go for twice that price.

I'm going to see if he is close by to me. If so, I want to take a look at what he has.

Hi,
1K$ is the starting price but it has a reserve...so it could go who knows where,.....when you say ''what's wrong with this pic'' what do you mean by that? I'm no expert and the only ''different'' thing I can find is the inch selector in a Belgium FAL.....is there any other thing wrong in the configuration of this FAL that I can not see and is obvious?

Guys, that $999 is only the opening bid, which means the reserve price is probably several thousand dollars higher.

And since it's Pre-May, anyone in a class III state can own it.

Aside from the type one upper and selector, I thought it odd that it has what appears to be an L1A1 flash suppresor. Looks like it's timed 180 off as well.
I really doubt this left FN in this configuration, but hey, I've seen some right odd looking FALs.

Yes, the 25 prefix and .308 MATCH as a semi-auto import and the last word on the right side: HERSTAL but not folllowed by BELGIQUE.

This may be an early international sales sample with the Type 1 receiver and the vertical locking latch.
The L2A1 selector is likely a replacement.

I find it hard to believe that it is a pre 1986 dealer sample.Pre 1986 dealer samples were original machineguns imported as select fire guns for sales samples by dealers. This rifle started life as a type three semi auto and the receiver was remachined into type one configuration.Hints of the type three origin are the serial number 2,50X,XXX,the words on the left side .308 match along with the importer markings on the right side. Also if you look closely at the lightening cuts on the left side near the hinge pin area you can see the original slope of the type three profile that would extend to the barrel area. Also you can see the original type three profile on the right side forward portion of the receiver by the barrel.
I think it being a pre 1986 dealer sample is not likely. It could be a pre 1986 transferable conversion remachined to look like a type one receiver would be more likely although at this low price why hasn't it sold in over a year of being offered for sale?I have another theory but I will keep it to myself,mills41.

Only a Class III dealer can own that.

Weird that it has a Type I upper receiver on it (with a 250 prefixed serial number). Has other odd features also.
I stand corrected by someone much more knowledgeable than I.

It can go to a Class 3 for inventory or 02/07 SOT as a keeper.

Why do you say it is off 180 off in timing? It is the same orientation as my Belgians, the key cut is on the top of the barrel, bayonet lug on the bottom. What differentiates a L1 flash hider from the long Belgian?

Thats a Browning style long Match Flash Hider. The position is correct - the lug on it's bottom is for the B bayonet . ( A $650.00 item itself. )
Take a look in Blake Stevens book.

I was not aware of this fact. It looks like an up-side down L1A1 to me.
If I could get my hands on Blakes book I'd bloody well own one. But every time I see one listed for a good price, I'm either broke or it's LONG gone by the time I see the for sale post.
Anyone have his book for a cheap price?
