Cambodian FALs?
Greetings all, from an FNG to the world of FALs.
In one of my gun books (of about 1965 vintage), I recall a citation of FALs being used by the pre-1970 Royal Cambodian Army. What is known about these, and did they last into the Khmer Republic/Civil War era of 1970-1975? I've seen quite a few pics of the Cambodian Civil War, and have not seen so much as one picture of an FAL. |

A contract for FAL's between FN and Cambodia was made in 1960. The FAL's were issued to the Royal Cambodian Army Special Forces (Airborne).
No other details found.

Some place I saw a reference that these were "G1" pattern rifles. Now does that mean G1s or rifles minus the FH. wood, metal or plastic HGs? I have been looking into this on and off for some time and have yet to come up with a picture.

Most likely the M2's as the Cambodians were small folks and metal handguards and bipods would be heavy and not especially suitable for dense wooded fighting.
I imagine they purchased maybe a thousand FAL's.
