Joined when kits and receivers and 7.62x51 were cheap and plentiful. Learned that FAL's is the coolest firearm, ever. Still here for the entertainment. Check in most every day.

Late to the computer/internet party, but I've been here since the first. Still have half the posts from the old blue board on my hard-drive. Wanna see where I was the first to stick up for DABTL when he started acting up? I was so wrong, and I apologize.
Miss a bunch of the old guard, but still the best site on the net. I've noticed a huge influx of newbies with questions lately(same questions as always, mostly), but it's good to see there's still interest. Kinda wonder where they're coming from and why. What's new in the FAL world that would bring in a fresh crowd?

I got directed here by a friend a couple months before I actually registered.
Things have gone WAY downhill since then. The wife has pretty much abandoned me to the "damn computer". I have signed on to at least a couple dozen other weapons sites over the years since I arrived here. A couple posts or so and back here I come. I'm definitely a FALaholic. I do fear for the future of this site. Any site like this needs a continual infusion of new blood. Without kits being readily available, and with the price of ammo still in the stratosphere the FAL may again become the rare bird it once was and the interest in them may fall off. The site has diversified a lot to accommodate other interests. Some think too much. Sometimes I agree with that. But, becoming a more encompassing site like GunBoards is likely what is required for the site to attract people and survive. |

Started here after I bought my first(and only ) FAL and at the same time my eight week old Grandson died. Needed something to take my mind off of that horrible event. Been hooked ever since. Of all the boards I've visited, this one is best and most active. Uzi Talk moves at a snails pace, HK Pro is an elitist bunch of folks and never found much of interest on THR or GlockTalk, and they seem to lack a sense of humor.
I'm on at least once a day and post when I can, not sure how much I'm able to add, but I do try. Gunner

Been here a long time now!! Still don't post very much.......
Most nights I just sit here and shake my head wondering and thinking a few of you are a few bricks shy of a load... But for the most part, there still continues to be a wealth of info shared on this site!

Not long before that I was at a local gunsmith shop and Dan At VOW came in to drop off some parkerizing work he had done. I didn't know who he was but he had an FAL with Izzy furniture with him to show the smith. As soon as I saw it I knew that I was going to be spending some money. I joined up here to learn all about what it was. My shooting interests have changed over the years but I still enjoy cruising through here. I rarely post but usually drop in several times a week to see what is going on. There is a huge knowledge base in the membership of this site. Just about any question posted by anybody about any subject is usually answered with good information. Last edited by TN MadDog; February 13, 2010 at 11:19. |

I don't post a lot but I have learned a great deal here. I don't see any fals at the gun range, now that I think about it I don't know anyone else personally that has a fal.

I have been around this site for a few years and there is a wealth of info on here, I have learned a lot from some of the members. I was even able to build a few rifles with that knowledge. However I've noticed recently that a lot of posts have a tendency to become pissing contests over just about anything and more personal grudge matches than anything else. I don't know why that is, but I do think that it turns some people off to this site, especially the newer members. I also noticed that admins have their own agenda and tend to be selective with enforcing the forum rules, which then pisses off the older members who tend to remember things. I would still recomend this site to others interested in FAL rifles. That is the core reason why we're all here, the other crap is simply fluff.

Been here since 2003......really?
I'm pretty sure I had been a member or a lurker for a few years prior to 9/11. I remember when I first found this site, I was looking for info on FALs because I had seen a TAPCO ad selling Imbel kits for $99 each or $89 for 2 kits. I had also seen an ad for Imbel Gear Logo upper receiver for $179 and thought it would be cool to build my own battle rifle that wasn't an M16 or AK variant. I just wanted something different that would send my hunting buddies clammering for one or wondering if I had gone militant.. ![]() Prior to my 1st FAL build ( $89 Imbel kit on an Entreprise Type 3), the only firearms I owned was Swedish Mauser 6.5x55 (all original and all matching), Rem 870 12 ga and a Ruger 10/22. Pretty much all standard hunting issue. My interest in FALs was purely out of the need for a battle rifle in preparation for an eventual SHTF scenario. I didn't have the $$$$ for M1A which was my first choice so I found out all about the FAL and became very fond of this unheralded MBR (well at least in the US) and joined this elite group here on the FALfiles. The members here (for the most part) are a cut above the rest and it has really has been an honor to meet many of you over the years. Though my interests have branched out into other areas(not all firearms related), I still call this my home forum even though I feel the environment here has diminished over the years due to many factors. It was the FAL and it's variants that really sparked my interest in battle rifles and then my subsequent education in WESCOGging . For that, I will remain eternally grateful and hope that the FAL Files will remain a part of my internet meanderings for the rest of my life. Last edited by slakline; February 14, 2010 at 13:40. |
