Picture from Iraq, count the weapons you'd want

I see a lot I'd want. I hope the classics don't get destroyed.

I wouldn't hold out any hope for ANY of those guns, even the air rifles, to be spared destruction. It's likely thought to be better PR to destroy all the weapons that are captured.
It makes a bigger pile and pyre.

chinese pellet gun
single shot shotgun
Ppsh 41's

rusty G3 barrels sticking out there in the lower LH corner

check out those RPG launchers....some are brand new!!

I bet they get ran over and burned or something to that effect like they did to the stuff up at Taji.

I call dibs on the Beretta SMG's. Look on the bright side, these are all weapons that won't be shooting at our soldiers anymore

2 left of grenade launcher looks to be an RWS or Weirach pellet rifle.

Some of that stuff def doesn't look shootable.

Also, what is the stockless thing cuddled up next to the para fal just to the right of the right soldier?

The condition of most of these firearms reminds me of the media photographs that are shown after the "local" gun buy-back program.

Okay...I'll take the two FAL Paras, one of the PKMs,the Yugo underfolder underneath the E german no.5549,the undefolder next to no.3484,and the PSL next to the PPSH41s.

Judging by the way they're sorting them,I'd guess they are going to recycle some of them. The US govt. just produced a rebuild manual for AK's,and by the way they are piling them, they might soldier on.

Were I president,my first order would be to allow troops to bring back war trophies. FA included. Just pay the tax stamp.

The bottom rhs appears to be an 1886 Lebel rifle in mint shape.

It does look like an international garage sale in Karachi.

What are the double-barreled AA intems next to the rpg tubes?

Yep, the Beretta 12's are about the only things in there that would interest me. Maybe a PKM just because. It's a strange mix of weapons.

I think the one that you think is a Lebel is Steyr M95 straight pull rifle.

I can't beleive some of you guys would pass on all the awesome junk there.

I'd take the recoilless rifles and 20mms just to mount up and look cool in my front yard, or living room perhaps, hmmm.

I'd take the berettas, the big guns, and rpgs, the pkms and all the aks, the ppsh's, and I might even dig through the piles of rust to see if theres an in teresting conversation piece.

I like the two GSH-23 auto cannons on the right side of the photo. If I could just get a MiG-23 or Mi-24 to mount them on....

That'll happen when

The K98 Model 1939 ( dated 1940, carried alot but from the bore, shot very little) that I hand-carried home for the BN museum had to be demilled : chamber and muzzle welded up.

Tried to get a Mountain Howitzer back, but didn't have enough time.

That is either Bush or hussein's fault. They trust people to drive all over in three ton vehicles, all you need is the license. They trust you to carry FA stuff ,as long as you are fighting for their benefit.
I see no reason not to trust honorably discharged troops from bringing toys back. Our dads did in WW2,and greater majority of them turned out fine.

The next time I hear "THE RANGE IS NOW HOT", it just wont be the same.

Max tried another question. "What sort of people live about here?"
"In THAT direction," the Jin said, waving its right paw round, "lives a Han: And in THAT direction," waving the other paw, "lives a Ming Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad."
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Max.
"You must be," said the Jin, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Been there.

Hungover with a bunch of Norwegians on our way back north by Sunday evening.

They though it was funny. I just wanted water and lunch.

All I can see is a blue question mark. But from reading the posts, I think I've seen that pic posted here before.

Photo was posted here around year ago. Interesting because it shows the diversity of weapons floating around Iraq. Marine in photo tells me it is in Al Anbar. I pretty sure it was taken at Al Asad AB, probably circa 2008. My guess is that they are cleaning out the conex where siezed weapons are stored.

This. Right next to the M-79 with no trigger guard.

The one immediately to the left of the M-79? It has a trigger guard (I get it now - the M79 doesn't have a trigger guard!) as well as a magazine box that extends beneath the stock. It also has the odd cocking knob/hook thing and the stacking post that the Steyr had. I tried to upload some picture of a Steyr rifle that I sold earlier this year to photobucket but my email has changed since I last used it and I can't. Never cared much for that site but I guess it is useful when the forum you have been a member of for over 8 years will not allow you to upload pictures.
That said, I think I would like one of the MG42s

I see a Stinger Missle next to the M79 ,glad they captured that wouldn't want any of our men getting shot out of the sky.

Stingers are IFF chipped.

This was found out the hard way by Palis when they tried to fire one they stole at an Israeli helicopter, and it took out one of their own gun emplacements instead.

Quote:

“We were disappointed by them, and they were found to have been useless,” a Hamas source said.

The source said Hamas smuggled four Stinger systems in 2008. The source said the Hamas military deployed the Stingers against Israel Air Force AH-64 Apache attack helicopters during strike missions in the northern Gaza Strip.

“Our gunners couldn’t fire the weapon,” the source recalled. “A notice came up on the display saying ‘friendly aircraft.’”

Another Hamas source said gunners deployed Stinger along with heavy machine guns in attacks on Israeli helicopters during the war in the Gaza Strip. The source said one Stinger surface-to-air missile was launched, but the projectile veered off course and struck a Hamas gunner squad.

“The Stinger was drawn by the heat of our guns rather than the engines of the Israeli helicopters,” the source said. “At that point, we stopped using this weapon.”

Funny thought...

I wonder how much the cost of operations in Iraq and Afganistan could be offset by the US government reselling all the guns they've captured on the US market? Well, maybe not the Stingers, but hey, that pile in the pic's gotta be worth a few hundred thousand!
