Yugo RPK
I'm not the biggest AK fan in the world. Oh sure, it's a neat rifle, and cleverly designed. As a military arm it sure is a sucess for a lot of good reasons, hard to deny that. But it's just sorta plain and common, and for the most part they just don't excite me too much.
RPKs are a slightly different story, and this one was absolutely top shelf. Perfect bore. Perfect EVERYTHING. I am told that the green ink on the stock behind the SN was the signature of the man who built it in the factory, and that it was legible prior to scrubbing the cosmoline off the stock. Hey, where's Bronco Buster? I know he'll like this.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Now that is a very nicely done AK. I would love to have another in the safe, but RPK's are just to front heavy to want to lug around.
Well done Adam!!!

Sweet! What are the compliant parts? Is the pistol grip one of them? If so, where did you get it? Need one for my kit.

Beautiful rifle, Adam. Thanks for speaking with me tonight. Sorry, I had to leave to pick up my college kid.
I'm looking forward to the FN FAL 50.00 when it is finished. I know that it will be another work of art. |

Adam,
She looks awsome I can not wait to get her back. This was a new kit from Bocefus years ago. The green is a signature and a date of Oct and the year of the trunion 1987 if I remember corectly was lathered heavily in Yugo grease. Pistol grip came from Mario I can not remember his web sight or gun smithing name. Peace, Craig |

parts
Rifle as shown has Tapco HTS and a US piston, in addition to all my mags having US floorplates.
It ate blanks Friday night, and the kids had a hoot in the shop showering the walls with steel cases. Pretty cool.

That really looks nice. I got a chub there for a minute.
Quick question, how much heavier is that barrel compared to a standard AK? I know that is subjective, but I'm wondering if it is like a FAL HBAR compared to a std FAL. I don't know much about AK's etc. Just wondering. thanks

Thanks for the info Adam...Again that RPK looks freggin sweet.
Interesting opinion on the FAL HB. I guess I can see where weight could be a big factor in the FAL not being as easy to control from a bi-pod. My M60 weighed 28 3/4 pounds dry (back in 75, they're a little lighter now) which made a fairly stabel platform to shoot the 7.62X51 from..I've never shot a select fire FAL..hopefully one of the days before I check out.. Merry Christmas

The buttstock sure looks a lot better than the club foot stocks the E. German RPKs sported.

Damn right. I drug a pig around as well, and loved every minute of it. The 60 didn't have recoil; it had THRUST. And you're absolutely correct- it was the weight that made the difference. I think what happened after WWII is that everyone looked and the 1918A2 and said "COOL! Let's make one of those!!" without stopping to think what made the weapon so great. The BAR was a heavy SOB, and the A2 had a low rate of fire that helped a bit. FALs and M14s in select fire modes are difficult to control, and that's being generous. Everybody figured it out after a while- How many US M14s were converted to semi auto? What about the South African selector mods, or the inch pattern guns that just flat out were not designed to be select fire? The BAR was cool because at the time, the M1919 was not real portable. With the advent of the M60, the BAR faded away, and with it, the need for magazine fed squad fire support weapons. The British never had a HB FAL. They used the Bren. The Aussies started buying and using M60s as soon as they could, and L2s collected dust in the armories if the 60s were available.

It will look a lot nicer.
