mauser mannlicher
sorry falgrunt, but i did a trade for this. this is how a mauser should look.
fine wood and flawless blueing. i had to trade a rifle and a small amount of cash for it, minus the scope, but, i think my luppy 2.5-8 will be a fitting replacement. i have wanted a mannlicher for some time, but never seemed to get one til now. i also wanted a much less punishing round, so a .243 will do just nicely ! so what do ya'll think ? ![]() ![]() ![]()

Pretty .... !!! I am no great fan of .243 but that should still make a fine little walking rifle mate. Just the ticket for an afternoon out here dusting swine.

Simple, elegant, refined.......
Definately not an American inspired design, but oh so beautiful to behold.

i have a remmy 700 varminter from way too many years back, and have killed alot of thigs with her.
stuff from ground squirrels to deer, even a fallow in belgium fell to a 243 round by me. i'm thinking some sort of barnes tsx, will do the trick. it's more for antelopes and deer, so i don't need a great big blasting cannon, nor huge heavy bullets. something nice, elegant, balanced nicely, and it's something i've wanted for quite some time, maybe not the caliber, but the style of rifle. oh, andy, heard anything about drilling for oil down there going nuts ? works so slow here, were going nuts. heard oil drilling was going good, and thought about looking into going to work down there. what can we hunt if i go ? bantang, camel, water buff, etc... |

![]() As to what you want to hunt....it is only limited by by how far you want to travel and how much to spend ![]() Pigs are easy....camels they will probably PAY you to shoot them .....deer we can arrange buffalo are getting harder but are still doable...bantang COST and I am not sure what they are charging for Hippo these days ( http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news...rom=public_rss ).Andy

Mauser
Looks like one of the old Interarms butterknife handle jobs from 20 +/- yrs ago. Nice aquisiton. Love the straight comb vs the Monte Carlo ones also seen. One just like yers in 308 would be a nice one for me. I had one of the early Ruger Mann tang safety jobs in 308 I refinished to get rid of the sprayed on brown finish. Traded it for a nice elm stocked Swedish M38 1942 model and some cash. Sometimes miss the Mann but the Swede 38 is nice too. You have a very nice Mauser there! Exc Find!!

Mawsa
If yer gonna mount a 2.5-8x36 on it, that combo will look great! Opinions vary, but to me, a 32-36mm objective will balance nicely on it. If you ever get daring, bet theres some nice looking wood under that brown spray tinted finish. Oh, and by the way, you suck for thumping us with that terribly nice find LOL!!

7x57 is a neat round if you have the time and inclination to load for it (and thus see it reach its potential).

Splat,
That looks great! Personally I have never been a fan of Mannlicher stocks but I have seen some beautifully done ones. I wish the weather wasn't so bad here (9* and blowing snow) I'd take a couple pictures of my .308 mauser I built, the .35 whelen(1917) I am finishing up, and the caliber unknown that I will be shortly starting. I like the set trigger, that is a nice touch, what does it break at? -myers

i have always had a warm spot for them since hunting in germany.
they handle and balance great, and to me, a work of art and beauty. can't beat the positive claw, and the trigger is adjustable. there is a small screw inbetween the triggers to adjust the weight. the mauser model 66 i have is set up the same way. and a true loony has to love the butterknife bolt handle too ! forgot another pic !
