Nicks in Rat Tail
What would cause nicks in the bolt carrier rat tail? The rifle has about one magazine through it, but I don't see where anything in the rifle is in a position to interfere with it. It has two nicks into the metal and a slight bend downward, but it's so slight you barely notice it, and it doesn't look like it would effect operation at all (just don't want it to get any worse). Not allowed to post pics, but do have at least one here.

It almost looks as if it was out a little when someone closed it. Also, check to see if the rat tail is binding in the recoil tube during travel.

on the recoil spring tube, sometimes they can be tightened past the point where the chamfer aligns, leaving an "edge" to the hole. Not a big deal really. Doesn't make sense on the spacing. I'm going throw my hat in with the "slammed shut with bolt partially retracted"
