Hanguard and sling recommendation
I bough the "Art of the Tacticool Carbine" and am thinking on gittin new handguards, vertical foregrip, and single point sling. I've been prcing stuff and it seems a little expensive. I noticed SG's ad on pg 39 of this month's Rifleman and found what I think are cheap options. I know you get what you pay for, but do any of you have an opinion on those listed or any other brand. I don't want to shell out $150 or more for a set of carbine handguards. Ditto on the sling. What say all of you?
Thanks, RJ |

Try First Samco hand guards. Light, strong, tight, metal heat shield. I have a set on one AR and will get another set when the current build is complete.

ephv,
Do you mean Command Arms (CAA)? I am looking at those now and do not know which is better, aluminum or polymer. Both are close in price. Whats your opinion? |

Not sure of the brand, but the one's from SG are Aluminum and are only about $50. About what I'd like to spend. The next closest to my price are the samco m33's which are a little cheaper than what Bushmaster has them for. (about $80)
I'm guessing I can't get quality for that price? EDIT: The brand is nc star, you can see it on one of the photos Last edited by rowjimmy; September 22, 2009 at 21:20. |

When I got mine it was First Samco. Looks like CAA has bought it out.
I bought the polymer and have enjoyed it. Light, not harsh to hold or bump into. I'm going to check on the CAA and make sure it is the same one. Yeah- I checked and it is the same one. It really is comfortable in the hand. Be sure to get the soft rubber covers. I used the CAA vertical hand grip ( VG1) because it will slide off and on with the push of a button. Has a storage in it for batteries and is shaped perfectly to mount a pressure switch for your light system. Check this source for price- http://www.outdoorsuperstore.com/pro...+HANDGUARD+SET

I have Yankee Hill Machine handguards on mine, not the cheapest but very good quality. My son-in-law has UTG on his, almost no difference compared to mine for almost 1/2 price. Both of us have UTG fore grip, comfortable and very reasonably priced. As for slings give Specter Gear a try. I have their slings on every long gun I own. Go through Houts Enterprises for great pricing and service. My 2 cents worth.

Thanks for all of the replies. I decided on the UTG since they were in my price range ($50) and the vertical foregrip was $11. Grip and handguards for $72 shipped to my house, so I figured it was worth it. They were the same price as the nc star one's sportsman's guide had, but I didn't think those came with the rubber covers. Besides, one of you (FAL banger) knows somebody who actually owns them and is satsified...that's good enough for me. Also, I told myslef I would never do business w/SG again, so I feel better keeping that promise.
Regards, RJ |
