good fishing day!! ***kings***
a friend, his son and i went out for salmon yesterday, and had a GREAT day!!
we caught 6 kings, and 11 silvers (cohos). here are a few photos of a couple of the kings i caught. we are getting closer to having our yearly allotment of salmon. now we just need to load up on halibut. also, deer season has started and we just ran out of venison burger from last year. we still have some roasts and steaks left, but we use the burger quite abit. so, we're going to get started on hunting.. here are the kings: ![]() ![]()

never have gone after them, they are farther north in the interior.
just deer around here. there is also mountain goat, but those are up way up high on the cliffs. i'm too out of shape to hike up to 4000 feet, shoot a goat and bring it back down. we normally get deer from the beach line up to 2000 ft. thats doable for me. plus, since goats are on cliffs, and i'm freaked out of hights... well, it aint a good mix

I want to come down and hunt deer with you! In exchange, you can come stay with me and hunt moose and caribou!
Did you see the pics of the fish me and my buddies too in Ketchikan? We were slayin' em. Never did get any kings though.

Careful....I hear that what happens to the "visitors" in Elk Camp pales into insignificance to what the Alaskans do.....or so I hear....

i'd guide ya. no problem. if you come hunting from now through the beginning of september, there are lots of leave on the trees and the bears are out in full force. in other words, you be guiding yourself because i'll be either fishing or relaxing at home. we usually start hunting in mid-october, the leaves are dropping so you can see alot better in the woods. safer, and you can see more deer. we woods hunt up the mountains until we get a bunch of snow, then when its over 6 inches or so on the beach, we then start beach hunting. that entails running the beaches all day looking for the deer that come walking out because the snow is too deep for them higher up. this is fun if you like trigger time, we usually do well if the deer arn't too spooked and run into the woods before you can get off the boat to shoot them. also, beach hunting is the time where long distance shooting REALLY shines!!! i love this kind of hunting, as the big bucks will let you get within 4-500 yrds, but sometimes if you try and get closer, they take off up into the hills. also, never mind the doofus from down under... ....besides, what happens in camp, STAYS in camp...

We got our pic taken the second day only. We caught way more silvers the first day.
This is from when we flew to Misty Fjords and landed on Goat Lake. Sure enough, we saw a bunch of goats.

excellent photos preston!!!!
fishing on the outer coast is different just because there is usually always swells and it can get nasty in a hurry. like yesterday, a coupla times i could hardly stand up, maybe 5-6ft seas rolling by. but the fishing was great, so thats all the counted. LOL we didn't go for halibut yesterday, but we usually do pretty good on the subsistence skate (longline) in september when they come in closer to the rivers to feed on dead salmon.

Hey Splatter! You can come hunt with me next year, we'll do some 4 wheeler hunting just outside the park boundary. The terrain and scenery is awesome, as is the hunting.
Some of my buddies up here have shoot moose from their back porch. It's legal, and lot less work than shooting one in the middle of nowhere and packing it out. In fact, one of my buddies shot his bulls two seasons in a row from his back porch, each time in his underwear!

I gotta tell you that brings tears to my eyes. My Mother (RIP) worked in seafood canneries in Warrenton and Astoria, OR most of my life. Although working class poor, we ALWAYS ate like kings at our house. All of the best quality seafood going through the cannery never made it past the women working the line because they would buy it themselves. I grew up eating without a doubt the absolute best seafood that the N Or and S WA coast could produce. Salmon, Dungeness Crab, Halibut, Cod, Shrimp, and the occasional Tuna was on our dinner plates.
Fast forward to today. My Mom is deceased, I live in the Willamette Valley (2 hours away from the coast), and my wife is deathly allergic to seafood. I can't even bring the stuff into our house when she's around. A good friend of mine and I someday want to go fishing for King Salmon and Halibut, I figure if the stuff is vacuum sealed and frozen she should be safe as long as she's not around when I cook/eat it. You have any reccomendations for places to stay/book trips for King Salmon and Halibut?

Nice Fish You guys !!
Oh how I wish I could live up there in AK...but my wife doesn't share the same enthusiasm. We were both raised in WA St. We love seafood and wild game. I like fishing and hunting .Makes no sense to me why we still stay in Nebraska ![]() I'll make it up there someday....only 1 of 2 states I've never visited. Maine is the other.

Some great shots of Alaskan bounty!
It brings back some memories. Anyone know if Team Navy Charters are still operating in Kechican? Quote:
