Gas block removal tool
would there be any interest in an aluminum blow hammer tip that can be used to safely remove gas blocks from barrells? I'm thining about pricing these so they could be considered disposable after say 5 uses or maybe I can work on a tip that gets inserted into the block that only costs like $5 and then you just buy new ones as they are needed? Ideas input, interest? feel free to throw in you .02.

I think you would have better luck building a fixture to use in a hydraulic press. Probably easier to make, last longer, and minimize possible damage. I know I would be in for one of that type.

I was thinking blow hammer cause they are smaller and cheaper and most people fiddling around with guns probably already have a compressor. Now would you want a insert that fits inside the gas block with a shoulder that rests on the end of the threads or something with a bore that fits on the shoulder outside of the threads? Ya see the blow hammer in my opinion with a low enough regulator setting is fairly gentle and doesn't deliver a metal bashing "WOMP" more like many "pecks".

with a blow hammer i would rather have a bore to go over the threads (run into some really stuck blocks before). i have been thinking about a 2 piece deal that (like an action wrench) would bolt around the block and barrel so i could use my press and have a straight push on the bore axis, hammering on the tube/regulator area just seems to far off centerline of the boss, not a big deal at first but as the block moves off further it can chant and bind if not paying close attention, (we are all somewhat susceptible to mental lapses)
*edit to add* the gas block wrench would need to have a removable section between the gas adjust and barrel for the different style blocks (inch, Izzy/argie, metric). IIRC they are different dimensions

That is why I would like something I could use with my press. It just don't move very fast and I don't tend to overdo it. The fixture doesn't have to be very large. Like Slow said, a two piece clamp on unit. Once it is on, then I could use one of my clamshell gear pullers as the base.

You guys got presses that are longer than the barrells I guess. I think I can work something out for you that would hug the gas block and wrap around the barell loosely and you can lie that clamp on the bed of the press and press with teh ram down on the muzzle. to put block on just flip the dealie over and ram down on the chamber. Is that what you guys were talking about?
