Questions: Argy Barrel / Flash hider
Greetings everyone - FAL newbie here --
(Quick story - I handled my first FAL in Hawaii in 1989 -- as I was examining it, I accidentally moved the take down lever with the barrel pointed skyward and had the bolt slide out onto a "luckily" thick glass counter. BANG! Everyone in the store looked over -- I was quite surprised and more than a bit embarrassed. I quickly handed it back, slipped out of the store and went back to the barracks dreaming of one day owning one.) Well, I own one now (almost 20 years later!). It's a DSA 16.25 with permanent muzzle break. I love shooting it, except for the muzzle blast. Which leads up to my questions. I purchased a new Argy barrel from Sarco and want to start gathering together all the parts I will need to have it eventually installed by DSA. I would greatly appreciate it if someone would take the time to answer some or all of the following questions? -What is the recommended flash suppressor for this barrel? -Is it a standard metric barrel and as such any flash hider for a metric barrel will fit? See (http://estore.websitepros.com/832529/Detail.bok?no=238) -Do I need to change the sights? -If yes (or no even) can I change to the AR style sight at the same time I have the Argy barrel installed? See (http://www.dsarms.com/Tactical-Para-...ctinfo/DSA110/) -Any gas or sight parts that need to be changed out? If you know of any other pitfalls to having this done, please make me aware of them. The classic saying, "I don't know what I don't know" certainly applies here. Thanks again -- Thomas NRA Life Member SSG, USA (Disabled)

Hello Tom
In regard to the bbl you purchased from Sarco, does the gasblock have solid protective sight ears or do they have holes in the side? We FALers refere to them as closed or open ear gasblocks. Larry |

Then the sight and gas system is all the same as your DSA.
Any rear sight that matches the metric low sightline is fine. Any f-hider or brake threaded 9/16-24 LHT should work too. Larry

Larry,
That is great news. I was a bit worried I'd have to buy a whole bunch of small parts. Another quick question (if I may?) - can you recommend a good FAL 'smith besides DSA? Someone in PA or an adjacnet state would be preferable. Thanks again. Thomas |

I don't keep up w/ builders & smiths as I do my own.
It would probably be best to post a " Looking for FAL builder/ PA" in the Marketplace, WTB or Gunsmithing area. Larry |
