FAL Fest 2010

Hi everyone. I talked to the NRA Center yesterday, June 5, and I reserved the ranges for the 2nd to last weekend in May 2010. Start making your plans now to attend.

Re: FAL Fest 2010

I am working on the Sharp's ammo this weekend in preparation. I am going to hit that buffalo with black powder even if it means killing Blaster.

That's Memorial Day weekend in 2010, Sidney.

I'd shoot for the one before or after that.

Hey wait a minute there Old Timer. I was there actually rooting for ya to hit that critter. Next week I'm going to take my Ruger No. 1 in .45/70 down to Whittington and see if I can hit that white buffalo. Won't be shooting BP though and with it's short barrel, it'll still be quite a challenge for me (for me being a lousy shot anyhow). Now go oil up that Sharps.

Thanks for pointing that out Forrest. I left a message with Brad at the Center to see if we can get the weekend before, which would be

May 21, 22, and 23.

I'll report later when he returns my call.

Damn, and I was going to suggest the weekend after. But if it's cooler, what the heck.

Fat guys don't like heat, but we're already Prepared By God for the cold.

Gonna be there rain or shine,

As I posted on there thread we DO need a little coordination between events so people have a chance to attend them.

Having both Stimpy's match and ours on the same day is no good to those that want to attend both.

Just some thoughts gang.

OK I did confirm with Brad at the NRA Center today that the FAL Fest weekend is May 21, 22 and 23, 2010.

I'll get t confirmed with some paperwork when I get back to the office in a couple of weeks.

Mark your calendars and start planning now!

May will be here before you know it!

We'll be there with more ammo and guns Hopefully next year everyone won't be in bed by 10 so we can hang out more lol. Or maybe we should get everything on our trip to Trinidad the first time. *SHRUG*

Just sucks we can't use 5.45 on the silouhette range. My tantal is 5.45 which I brought this year. I have a .223 ak i'm building and once I file my paperwork with the atf i'll have a krink but it'll be 5.45 also

I don't think the commercial stuff penetrates like the surplus. But oh well we can use it on the big steel animals on the sight-in range. Since amanda won 2nd in the king match, I think I may have to build her one of her own fal/l1a1 First she wants a pump shotgun though.

Atleast I have a year to buy everything I need. Like some wiley x goggles and a nice leather holster. And more guns

I was watching the video they have about their adventure camp. Man what I would've gave to do that as a kid.

578 miles driving. Why not fly into Amarillo? It is 215 miles from there.

Or about one mile if you fly into Raton. Their airport is just across the highway from the NRA Whittington Center. Of course it kinda depends on how large an aircraft you would be flying.

If commercial, he might be getting MUCH lower, MUCH MUCH lower rates by flying into a major airport. And an international flight isn't exactly $100. Somebody will probably have to spot the man an FAL, however. No problem.

In 2007, I saved a couple hundred $$ by flying into Orlando and driving one-way up than going directly to Atlanta. With Disney World and the Kennedy Space Center the rates were super-cheap since Orlando is a "tourist hub" and it so happened the car rental had too many cars and gave me a fantastic deal on a one way rental, which is normally rather spendy.

Denver is the closest large international airport, and it's only (and some of us here think that it's much too close) about 70 miles north of us here in Colorado Springs...

Depending on airfare wackiness, Colorado Springs or Denver could easily be the cheapest...

If you come into DFW I can help you once you get here. I work right on the border of DFW airort (and it's a very large border) and can be to any terminal in about 10-15 minutes.

The difference is ten miles according to mapquest. From Denver 219 miles and fromAlbuquerque 229. Only thing I would add is that I suspect that going through Denver there is more traffic. Going through Albuquerque, not much traffic and interstate all the way.

Yep I am also near dfw airport. James works closer to it than me but I live just a few minutes south of it. We could both easily help you. Andyc is also kind of close.

Flying into amarillo would be a better idea as you could get there quicker. Alot easier for a one day drive. But if you come here you have us to help you out.

Just curious as I have no clue and i'm a citizen. Are foreign drivers licenses valid here?

This question is somewhat irrelevant...

All he has to do is do what all the illegal immigrants here do, just drive without a license or insurance and let those of us who do pay for those things pay for them too...

Sorry, sensitive point around here, where our uninsured motorist coverage has increased dramatically over the past two years because our 'representatives' are unwilling to address the core problem...

But I certainly don't mean to derail the thrust of offers of help to SIG552 by this comment, and I certainly offer whatever help I can give too...

....yes for the most part. I sported an International Drivers License for some years but found I just didn't need it anymore as the majority of places I was to visit (willingly) recognised my Aussie one. Including the US.

In 2006 I drove from Amarillo to Albq, a nice enough drive, need to check the map to see where you are headed. We will be flying into DFW this year I believe....watch for the news reports of a rental car going at speed up the wrong side of an interstate and all of you Texas folks arrange a little whip around for bail money OK ...

If you have not been to DFW before and think, just think, you might travel the wrong direction, be sure your will and life are in order. This is NOT Amarillo.

E470 to I25 and interstate all the way to Raton from Denver, too...

Direct and easy route...

And a stop in Colorado Springs for whatever along the way if desired...

But Albuquerque would work pretty well too...

By the way, SIG552, I'm afraid that bringing full auto FALs into the United States from The Netherlands will present greater problems than driving while here...

Too bad, since it's easy money. Get the BIG Estates to make it worth your while.

Detroit, OR is a sleepy little tourist town partway into the Cascade Mountains. Got a dam there and some good boating and fishing. Pretty country. I used to go camping a bit beyond Detroit around Breitenbush.

You would not be the first one doing that as it happens all the time around here. Most of the time it's 3am and they are drunk. Someone is usually killed.

Gentlemen,

As I said to Forrest in a PM, I think DFW is my best bet as its an airport my airline serves. That makes it easier for me to "stand-by" in to.

Dirtyrice and James' offers are above and beyond, and I'll surely be making use of them!

Thanks again guys,

SIG552

Depending on how many days before falfest you arrive we have a nice range too

Driving from the dfw to raton is a straight shot on 287. It's roughly 550 miles. If you do good on time and leave early it's not so bad. We left late at around 10am and got there around 8-9ish.

Make sure you have a written invitation, or get a small game licence from a state that either doesn't require Hunter Ed, or will accept some form of hunting licence from your home.
With either of those, you're allowed to possess firearms & purchase ammunition.

Yeah I was gonna mention the thing about the hunting license. Doesn't this also allow you to import a firearm for the duration? I thought this allowed people to import firearms for the duration of competitions or is that only for the olympics, I know sig has an osw like fal with an l1 receiver. Didn't know if the safety sear cut would make it so it couldn't be brought in.

But I have an l1a1 with a longer barrel he could use, Might be a little more suited for the distance stuff.

If he brings in a full auto, he will be here much longer than he wants.

Thats what I figured but I thought people were allowed to bring in guns that are banned from import for competition. Didn't really think that applied to nfa weapons.

Maybe someone who knows could tell us what they do allow visitors to bring.

Found this:
Federal law generally prohibits the importation of NFA weapons, nonsporting firearms* and ammunition, and surplus military firearms or ammunition. 18 U.S.C. 922(l), 925(d)(3); 26 U.S.C. 5844.

The AECA makes it unlawful to import "defense articles," including firearms and ammunition, into the United States without a permit and to export such articles from the United states without a license. Import permits and export licenses specify the importer or exporter and the purchaser. AECA regulations, 22 C.F.R. Parts 120-130 and 27 C.F.R. Part 47, require the registration of individuals and entities engaged in the business of importing or exporting defense articles. Registration is a prerequisite for persons engaged in the business of importing or exporting these articles.

*In the case of rifles and shotguns, "nonsporting" firearms are firearms other than NFA weapons (e.g. , machineguns) and semiautomatic assault weapons. Administrative criteria are used to determine whether handguns are sporting. The criteria take into account factors such as size, weight, and the presence of safety features.

but he wouldnt be importing it per say. Maybe it was only olympians that are allowed to do it. But I thought japanese come here and participate in ipsc and shit and bring their pistols with em.

EDIT EDIT!!!!
ATf has this form on their website: Application/Permit for Temporary Importation of
Firearms and Ammunition by Nonimmigrant Aliens
http://www.atf.gov/forms/pdfs/f53303d.pdf

Info about it:
http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Fe...ad.aspx?id=537

Alot more info:
http://www.atf.gov/firearms/form6nia/faqs.htm

Like I said i'm sure it'll be easier just to borrow someone elses. Just giving you information. Let you know what you can do.

"Q33. Are there any restrictions on the types of guns I can bring into the United States for hunting or for a shooting competition?

A. Yes. You may not bring in semiautomatic assault weapons unless they previously were in the United States on or before September 13, 1994; large capacity ammunition feeding devices (which generally include magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition) made after September 13, 1994; unregistered National Firearms Act weapons (which include machineguns, short-barreled rifles and shotguns, and silencers); U.S. government origin firearms or firearms that contain U.S. government origin manufactured parts or components; and firearms from certain proscribed countries. If you think the items you wish to import may be affected by these restrictions, please contact the Firearms and Explosives Imports Branch."

So I was wrong. You can just bring shotguns for skeet/hunting and pistols really.
So you might be able to bring loaded fal mags lol. Since all surplus fal mags were made before 94 they should be fine. But yeah kind of a big hassle. And i'm sure you'll have enough to worry about traveling this far. How controlled are 20rd fal mags in the netherlands? DId you have any plans to buy ammo in the u.s.?

Do the restrictions on non existent "semiautomatic assault weapons" still apply post 2004?

I know it wont help much, as almost all FAL's are cut for the safety sear,

I made the 'bring the full auto into the country' stuff up as a joke when discussing/comparing it to problems with driving here with a foreign driver's license...

SIG552 has never mentioned bringing in a full-auto weapon for falfest...

As matter of fact, a couple of us have offered to spot him guns to shoot...

Just thought that I'd mention that before the NFA importation speculation runs too far afield...

You can be our test case. Do not worry. We are all behind you in this. Far maybe, but behind is the best we can do.

I was only curious if there were exceptions for temporary imporation as DABTL and atf website says no there are not. You can't even import so called "assault weapons". Noone was suggesting importation of nfa items I answered all my own questions and hopefully someone elses

I was just trying to inform him of what he has a legal right to bring and possess and the process he would have to take if he chooses to do so. But I know it's alot easier for him to just borrow. Just like mike was informing him the legalities related to the hunting license and such. Like he said if you're reason is shooting competition it'd help to have an official looking invitation of some sort.
