7.62x25, is it .308 or .311

It is my understanding that when referring to Comblock .30 cal, it is generally known to be .311, but from my findings its seems that 7.62x25 to be .308.

So the question, is 7.62x25 .308 or .311?

MTIA,

One more question, why?

Why would they retool their machines to churn out .308 ammo or produce .308 barrels.

Well, the 7.62x25 Tokarov cartridge is based off of the 7.63 Mauser cartridge. So... that may be your answer.

You will sometime find WWII PPSh barrels with the larger bore of the 7.62x54R. My guess is that a .308 bullet will go down the bore and you can produce 2 PPSh barrels from one blank versus 1 for a M91/30 and thus 2 guns.

I have slug out a couple of CZ-52 and they come out 310-311 so a 308 dia is a little undersize. I tried 32-20 bullets that are 311 and shot them in the CZ-52 And they group a lot better then the 308 dia. I have 3 Astra 400 in 9mm largo the factory rounds are 355 dia. I slug out the bore and they were between 358 to 360. I tried 358 dia bullets and the shoot good. The trick is to slug out you bore and then tried to match the bullet to the bore size.
