R1A1 Gas Plug removal
I recently purchased a used CAI R1A1 with an Imbel receiver. It has a metric receiver but the rest appears to be inch parts. How do yoy remove the gas plug. Is there a hidden pin to release.

push the pin on the gas plug "in" with a bullet tip and rotate until it unlocks and then pull it out.

It has a spring-loaded plunger that has to be depressed to turn. Most use a bullet tip to do this, some (Izzy) have a lever on them. Yours might be cruded up a bit, so push hard.
DSA sells a "Quick release" US made one, but for $35, I'll just keep struggling with the origionals.

RIA1 Gas plug removal
I have been trying to identify where this pin is located. I have observed that there is a small hole at the front sight base that is visable when the gas setting is at max. I also observed that there appears to be something else that could be a pin in the plug itself. Is this pin you are referring to part of the gas plug itself. There is something that looks like a pin which goes horizontally through the visible portion of the plug. this is located behind the big slot cut in the plug. One side of this pin has a large protruding round end that falls into a detent.

your on it, now. Push the pin in and start rotating the plug. There are lugs that will line up with the slots and then it can be pulled out. uh...most of the time. sometimes they get gunked up and they get stuborn
look on the front page at the part labeled "gas plug" this be what your dealing with. Best pic I couold come up with.....fast http://gunthings.com/falfront.htm

Referring to the FAL picture in the link that was sent, is the release pin what is visisble in the side of the gas plug? If so mine needs to be cleaned up I guess so it will move. Which way do you rotate the plug to remove it?
Thanks, |

I rotate mine to the right but I believe you can go left too. A few drops of Liquid Wrench or someting like that isn't going to hurt a thing.....more than likely it will help
