Picked up 4th Gen G22
Long story short, bought old man a S&W victory repro .45acp revolver for Xmas. He didn't want it, so today I traded it in.
I bought the new gen 4 22. To qualify I own 2 17s 1 17L and have owned a 27. In summary. New grip is great, as a very big hand sweater nearly all my grips involve hogue coverings, or checkering so sharp your hand WILL bleed. That being said, The tiny sharp dimbles are nice, don't know how they will hold up long term. The "fish Gills", wannabe shark skin (ala S&W MP) are TOTAL CRAP. They actually give you less grip than the good old vertical slide grips. In summary, keep the grips, loose the FISH GILLS. I can't rack the gun if my hands are anything less than very dry. I got rid of my S&W 99/ Walther 99 because my sweaty hands kept sliding up and hitting the slide lock. The fish gills are just CNC hemispherical cuts and look rather cheap from a machinists point of view. They don't have enough of a sharp edge to really grab at your skin and allow a good grip. If I was glock I would work on fixing their ever present dust cover/ rail bend issues. . . While purely cosmetic, they reek of CHEAP PLASTIC. Maybe an ambi safety too while they are at it. Gen 3 vs Gen 4. 90% cosmetic. Glock must think that the M&P and XD designs are finally biting into their sales. I'll stick with glocks because their spare parts and mods are numerous. Same reason I stick with my single and double stacked 1911. Too many cheap and wonderful parts and mods. |
