A good way to spend my tax refund...
Hi all,
I'm pretty new around here (just a couple of weeks) and have only posted in a few threads. I'm currently on my third FAL (STG-58 parts kit I built on an Imbel reciever in the 90's). I got rid of a thumbhole Century L1A1 and Israeli HB parts kit I built up years ago (currently trying to buy the Israeli back from my friend but he's not ready to sell yet because of the Obama crisis). I got rid of the Israeli HB and built myself the Austrian because of the sheer weight of the thing and not wanting to lug it around - 13 pounds or so unloaded if I remember correctly. But man, was it accurate! Anyway, I've caught the FAL bug again and I'm about to build up a new kit. I've been emailing with SARCO and I can get one of the kits they currently have (which are South African origin, mixed parts from diff. guns) and a new Argentinian barrel for $250. It's either that or an Imbel kit for around $325. I'm inclined to go with the South African with new barrel, and I'll probably customize the stocks with American-made replacements and add in the other required 922r stuff. I'll be throwing some business to Dan Coonan on the receiver unless an Imbel comes up at a good price. I figure all told, with my buddy doing the barreling/headspacing, and the compliance partsI should be in at around $700-750 or so by the time I'm done. Anyway, this is a great forum and I'm glad to have found it. Lots of valuable info on here! Dave, Colorado Springs, CO |

Imbels receivers are hard to find these days. Tough luck on the HB.. Them are nice guns and they don't show up too often. In your shoes I'd probably go with the SA kit. DSA makes a nice set of handguards other compliance parts, just order ahead of time because they frequently are out of stock..

I'm still kicking myself on the Israeli HB. The parts kit minus receiver cost me $111 in 1996, IIRC. Wish I could go back in time.

$119 plus shipping from Sarco. IIRC.

$129 for mine and I'm glad I got rid of it. HB semi is just a stupid item.

I got my HB kit for $100.new Sarco in the grease [0] Marked HB and built it with a Entreprise Isreali receiver and a SEI Isreali HB muzzle brake with no bipod, saves some weight like that, but it is still way heavy.
