Source for L1A1 Breeching Washers

Hey guys,

I'm getting set up to do an Aussie build and I've got everything I need except for the locking shoulder and more importantly, the breeching washer. I can't get a headspace read to figure out the locking shoulder without the barrel timed up so I'm in a pinch. I've tried all the usual suspects (Gunthings and Gun Parts guy) and Pat at SAFLithgow seems to have absconded.

Any suggestions?

well you can get an (estimate) by taking guage pins of the same size ...or drill bit shanks and using them on either side of the shoulder/receiver face,as ya time it ... and a pin or drill bit for the lock shoulder estimate .....(letter, #, frac, drill set set will give ya a few sizes in the range to play with

i have been known to scavenge washers ..some electric motors have a bunch of em in the seals on shaft end ...made ta order ...i have a bunch here if ya get desperate ..runnin about .o6o.thick .perfect fit over thread detail also .

It's probably worth a 20 spot to me to have a gen-u-ine Aussie washer. What sizes ya got? I'll measure up the gap tonight...

Well you guys must have done this before, 'cause my gap measurements came out to about .06 for approximately 10:30. .055 came out a little past 11:00, looked to close to be able to tourque to 100-150ft/lb. Not exactly precise but that's what the ole Craftsman gauges said.

So that what I need...

now I see why they say use a metric kit for your first build!

sled ..i stand corected ..washers i have left ,two together make .o585 ..1.2075 OD .....1.0065 ID ..(had some at .o6o, guess i used em up ) ....if ya cant find "one" toss me an email ....they are hardened and precision washers ..will work just fine if ya cant locate one .....

Let me lok and see what I have sled dog, I think I have a 7, a 3, and a 5, and maybe a 2.

Now I'll be earning that twenny, ggiillss, cuz I gotta measure, instead of somebody looking up Kevin Kiwiwi's chart, and just going by the numbers.

And if it's too thick, you can just sand it down to fit perfectly, that is why the breeching washer system is actually superior to the metric fitting. It's a lot easier if you live in a mud hut.

ggiilliiee I know ce is taking me to the woodshed for that washer but it's supply and demand....with the impending breeching washer ban

I think a counterfeit Aussie washer may be all you'll be able to get in the future and I need to contribute to his tooling costs.

Seriously though set those aside for me just in case, I think .0585 would get me there, that is if it won't cause your jug smashing machine to fall apart

I know I paid ten bucks apiece for those washers from DSA. They had them advertised for $5, so I ordered 4, and they sent me 2.

Hey! No wonder everybody sez you suck.

Someone said that the tension washers for the generator of the Volkswagen 1500 engine work perfectly, and come in different sizes. I've been following a Hippie van for months, but they won't ever get out, they just keep driving around.

There's no big mystery to determining washer size. You use feeler guages, and with the appropriate use of the individual leaves, you can get an exact measurement. Measure at the 10:45 Oclock and when your barrel is hand tight there, your have your needed washer size. If you can't get the correct size, get the next larger and hand stone it until you get that 10:45 to 11:00 position, and it will torque correctly to tdc.Ron
