Barrels from Sarco inc?
I was looking through the newest issue of shotgun news, and while looking through the adds, I see that Sarco inc has several FAL parts. One that interested me were new barrels. If I remember correctly (didnt buy the issue) They list them as brand new FN contract. Chrome lined. They list open ear and closed ear, and a standard and bipod cut model for each of those. I am interested in the closed ear, bipod cut.
So does anyone have one of these barrels? The STG58 kit I have, the barrel is OK, but not great. You can see a good ammount of light pitting/roughness. Its not much, and not deep, but its easy to see. Bore does still shine. Also just a little bit around the hole in the gas block. I am only going to do this once, so I want to do it right. I want this to be as nice a rifle as I can afford, as I plan on keeping it forever. Not enough money to build more than one rifle. So I was thinking about picking one of these up. I was just looking for opinions, to see if anyone on here has one. Thanks. |

I got one with a kit I bought from them. It comes sealed in a plastic bag. It is parked spanking new with a chrome bore which is new.
I do not know what other information you would need. Their turn around time for my order was pretty good. |

Hello I have a number of these bbls. They are Argentine made. Some are chrome lined some are not. They also have open ear or closed ear gasblocks and some bipod cut some not which ever you like. The bbls do show exterior finish wear because they have been stored in bins together at Sarco but the bores are new. Let me know if there is a style you are looking for and I might have it here and I can send you a pic of the bbl. Thanks EX1

I believe the barrels they offer are mostly Argentinians. The open ear will have a barrel lug, the others are for the shorter combo device, Most I've seen looked fine as to condition. I prefer the chrome-lined. Ron

Sarco's Argy barrels are all threaded on the muzzle. They are the later type.

The type I am looking for is the same type that came with my STG58 kit. The closed ear bipod cut barrel. Chrome lined seems like a nice plus.
So just as long as its bipod cut, muzzle is threaded to fit my STG58 flash hider (stoll?) and chrome lined, I should be happy. |

I got a SARCO open eared barrel for my Izzy clone. I am very happy with it's accuracy. I shot one 10 shot group at 200 yards with handloads, prone unsupported, all into a 5" group.
Best Regards, Slo cat

Jeeps
Just call up and ask what they have. I believe that there are three types they have. I got one of the type you seem to be looking for. |

Although I didn't get them from Sarco, I have a couple of rifles built up with the Argentine open-eared barrels...
They're great barrels... Forrest |

I bought an open eared Argy for my Izzy clone and a closed eared Argy for my South African FAL. Closed ear shot <2 MOA with PMP. Didn't test the open ear.

Sarco does sell the barrel's with closed ear blocks. I have one that I got from them for a build. They are still listed in thier SGN ads. Calling them is what you should do.

Sarco
I ordered a Sarco parts kit, and received what looks like a new chrome lined barrel with new park. in a sealed plastic bag. It has threads on the muzzle end, but I don't know what I have for the "closed" or "open ear" gas block system? The bbl looks like it has three slotted areas, one for a sling loop, closest to the muzzle, and two that could be for a bi pod, am I correct on this anyone? The hand guards that came with the kit up front are like new Izzy wood/steel. The lower is painted up with yellow green camo on the receiver and butt stock, and appears well worn.
What is the difference between open and closed ear gas block? |

Yikes, dude, you have a barrel with a bipod cut, but you don't have gasblock on it.
It should be in the first slot. Kind of a problem. Not for moses or that other dude with the 20 ton press, so see what they'll charge to fit one to your barrel. The open ear has holes in the sight protector 'ears', and is tall like Israeli, Argentine, and Indian., so you'll need a taller rear sight. The closed ear is standard metric like Imbel, Belgian, South African, and uses a standard rear sight. You can mount either gas block on your barrel. I'll trade you a splendid Imbel lower for your African lower. It won't be near as worn, it'll be nice. Real nice. |

Negative ce, I have a gas block, and it has open ears, thanks for the explanation.
How do we know that my lower is African with a standard height sight? |

Flyboy,
we can ID your lower sight-unseen as African by the baby poop colored paint you described. If you had a tall rear sight it would be obvious to you as the peep hole sticks up nearly 3/4 of an inch above the rear sight. The open ear gas block and tall rear sight were not used by the African nations in any quantity worth noting so it is very likely that you have the later, lower sightline model. Cheers, Darrell

Imbel Lower
Sarco's bad. Why are they sending out an African lower that I can't use with a new Argentine barrel? Is it possible to change the rear sight to match the open ear Argentine barrel sight height? If not, let's plan a trade CE.

Tell ya what I'm gonna do.
Since you need help with this, I'm going to send you an Imbel lower, with a tall inch sight, and you're going to send me yer Aferkin lower, with a tall twenty dollar bill. Then you'll have what you need, and I'll get what I want, and everybody's happy. Let's make it easy, you send yer lower first, and I'll send mine if I like it. |
