Buffer tech
I have used these expensive chunks of rubber on other hard recoil weapons and was wondering what you guys think of them for the FAL.
Or does just adjusting the gas system prevent excessive slamming? |

Some love, some hate---this battle rifle was designed for full auto fire and
was NOT designed with a "buffer",I personally don't use them but if you want one go for it. I have heard that in some FALs they have caused some functioning problems. Just my .02 worth. Pete

We've beaten this one pretty much to death - try a search, get back to us if it doesn't work
PS, I like them. If they cause a problem you have a preexisting problem with the rifle. A properly installed buffer will not affect the reliability of a properly functioning rifle. PPS Expensive is relative. Is $10-15 an expensive part for a $750, $1200, or more rifle ??

I don't have much luck with the search function either. Now I feel better
The FALs adjustable gas system surely does lessen the need for or advantages of the buffer, my personal feeling is that a buffer is absolutely not necessary, but that if a $15 part saves ANY wear on my rifle, it is worth it and then some. I don't find FAL recoil a problem, so if the buffer takes a little edge off the recoil, it's nice but hardly worth considering. I've used buffers on most every FAL I have owned and have either put them in or at least tried them in the rifles of several friends. Had one or two problems which occured with the buffers in, and in both cases a preexisting problem was found in the rifles. If memory serves one case was a leaky G1 gas system. In both cases fixing the rifle was the answer, not leaving out the buffer. If you try a buffer and have function problems, it is time to check the rifle, not blame the buffer and figure because the rifle functions without the buffer that the rifle is therefore good to go. BTW, my personal theory is to set the rifles' gas without the buffer in just as you would ordinarily do, then install the buffer. I tend to run my FALs on minimum gas, but even then adding the buffer does not seem to cause any problams or require further adjustment. If TSHTF is in progress, I might agree with those who don't use buffers. On the off chance that the buffer broke or worked out of position, it could indeed cause a problem, though I have never seen it happen personally. Of course, it is the work of a couple of seconds to pop a buffer out, so if the zombies show up and the buffer is working on your peace of mind, you can sure ditch it quickly enough. JMHO but true in my experience. YMMV.
