Another "whats it worth" thread

I found another fal... didnt have a camera, but it was metric i believe, Century receiver, metal handguards/bipod 0% finish. ak74 type muzzle thing on it (kinda ugly), wood stock/pistol grip. bore was dirty, but may clean up after shooting it a bit...? i would call it "good" condition. the guy wants 650.

I kinda have my heart set on a VG+ condition fal, but i dont wanna pass up a bargain either... should i keep walking or nab it?

Any help appreciated!

There are much better guns available.

Some desperado will pay for that clunker.

No bargain at that price.

Good call - BTW, the correct way to clean a grungy bore is with patches and solvent, not by shooting

I don't know yet if I agree with preston, but in any event it is worth it to spend a little extra time and money rather than make a hasty decision.

Local shop has a Century inch with butthole stock at $600 - but it is quite clean and I'm betting it could be bargained down considerably. Not my cup of tea, but the point is that clean well maintained shooters are out there.

Don't just pass up an FAL without at least checking it over and asking lots of questions here.

I almost passed up an L1A1 Century in a lock and key shop. They were asking $500 for it.

I passed on it for a while, as warm fuzzies weren't happening for me either.

Then I asked a few questions here...detailed questions. But I figured that since it was Century it was junk.

What I wound up with was an early CAI build when they were in Canada. Built on an Argy receiver and 1959 Enfield lower and barrel. Hythe rear sight. British pebble grain furniture. I got a good deal.

Just beware of non compliant rifles out there though, and be prepared to change some parts.
