BYE BYE Dan Cooper !

from the website

In response to the recent article highlighting Dan Cooper's personal
political donations, the board of directors, shareholders and employees
of Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc would like to issue the following
statement.

The employees, shareholders and board of directors of Cooper Firearms of
Montana do not share the personal political views of Dan Cooper.

Although we all believe everyone has a right to vote and donate as they
see fit, it has become apparent that the fallout may affect more than
just Mr. Cooper. It may also affect the employees and the shareholders
of Cooper Firearms.

The board of directors has asked Mr. Cooper to resign as President of
Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc.

Daily operations will continue with the competent staff currently in
place in Stevensville, MT producing the finest, most accurate rifles
money can buy.

Dan Cooper has spent all of his working life producing the highest
quality rifles built here in the USA. He started with nothing but the
American Dream and built that into firearms company anyone would be
proud of. We firmly believe Dan stands by the 2nd amendment.
We wish him all of the best in his future pursuits.

It remains to be seen. Cooper Firearms is a privately held company, so this could all be a smokescreen to cover his ass.

Remember the last "statement" on their website, which turned out to be a load of shit. If the BoD and the shareholders are mostly family members and buds of Cooper, it's probably just a rearranging of the deck chairs to divert peoples attention, with Cooper still pulling the strings and collecting the money.

I'm not buying it...yet.

This has me completely frosted and I agree concerning privatly held companies.

How do you fire yourself?

Anyone know who the Georgia dealers are?

Although I don't share Mr. Coopers apparent political views. I don't like companies dismissing employees for purely private political activity undertaken outside of work.

I have purchased firearms and/or accessories from the shops listed above. I will be sending them a politely-worded note giving background on the Cooper/Obama debacle and stating that if they choose (as is their right) to continue doing business with Cooper Arms, I'll choose (as is my right)to cease doing business with their shops.

It could be argued that Mr. Cooper, by publicizing his association with the company while conducting his "purely private political activity undertaken outside of work", caused harm to the company's reputation and seriously jeopardized future sales. Sound like an argument for dismissal to me.

Sure it does. But depending on the capital structure of the company and the size of Mr. Cooper's shareholdings, it may not make one lick of difference. Many small businesses, particularly those run by the founder, pay the boss very little in salary and instead pay the shareholders (i.e. the boss) with dividends. So potentially now he doesn't need to show up for work, rather only trudge to the mailbox to pick up his quarterly dividend check. Hurts his pride maybe, but not his wallet in this scenario.

His name's on the front door, so that's a bit more than Joe Schmoe who inlets the stocks donating to the Obamunist.

I just read a statement from Dan Cooper, and in one sentence he says "I have voted many times as a republician but they went too far right for me" Maybe he feels socialism will work better for his company and him? Dan is also a liar for stating that besides donating $3,300 to Obama he also donated to McCain. When checked it turned out to be a lie.

Kind of like Bill Ruger and his anti gun bullshit isnt it?

Reminds me of Yogi Berra, "It's like Deja Vue all over".......

It'll hurt but it would help us as a country.

Has he recently expanded his business? Borrowed a lot of money? Refinanced? His stock (assuming he has any) could be tied up and his creditors are the ones pulling the plug on him. Either way, good riddence I say! Another fifth column limosine liberal we don't need!

Cooper = Zumbo = Judas = Cooper = Zumbo = Judas = Cooper = Zumbo = Judas = Cooper = Zumbo = Judas = Cooper = Zumbo = Judas = Cooper = Zumbo = Judas = Cooper = Zumbo = Judas = Cooper = Zumbo = Judas =...etc.

This is NOT getting anywhere near the media attention it should.

When 'some' people get too successful, they get socialist.

Look at Warren Buffet.

They become liberal/conservative.

Liberal with YOUR money and conservative with THEIR money.

I suspect Cooper (probably correctly) thought that bolt action rifle sales would increase if semi-autos were demonized and banned.

Ruger sold us all out before so that they could increase sales due to lack of other semi's that he had a VERY SUBSTANTIAL part in banning.

You mean like Apple couldn't force out Steve Jobs? Which they did, for over a decade, despite the fact that he started it?

Or when Disney forced out Roy Disney?

You need to read up on how corporations with boards work.

Those are very large publicly traded companies. No comparison.

Umm, really? Maybe I am missing something.

When you have a publicly traded company, especially one on the scale of Disney or Apple, it is much easier to have a Board of Directors that will make fundamental changes. Even changes that remove the founder. For a small company that is privately held I don't see the same level of debate and board influence on the CEO/Founder.

Disney

http://corporate.disney.go.com/corpo...andards11.html

http://corporate.disney.go.com/inves...tock_info.html

Depending on sources I found on the internet 1940 or 1957 as the date Disney went public.

Apple

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_year_...public_company

Clearest answer I could find concerning Apple. This is shown to be 1977. I also went on to Nasdaq, but could not find a definative answer.

Please, explain where I have it wrong. I am willing to concede any errors in my analysis if they can be shown.

I gotta agree with Buddy Lee here. I don't know how big Cooper firearms is, but, I doubt that they could force him out. Call it ignorance... thats what I think.

My grandfather owns a tool and die business. Now, say he did something stupid that the workers did not approve of. They could not FORCE him to leave... even if he quit working, he would still be getting paid from the dividends of the company.

Maybe not...

I used to work for LWRC or, as it used to be known before the founder did something really dumb, Leitner-Wise Rifle Co.

Paul Leitner-Wise was the founder, former CEO & was the Chief Engineering Officer when he made a serious boo-boo on arfcom by pretending to be a SOCOM officer engaged in trialling new weapons.

His actions almost ruined the company & the board of directors (of which I was one at the time) took action to remove him from the company. He was fired & had no contact or influence with the company from that day forward. The company was very small at the time & only had a few investors & 3 directors.

No matter how small the company is, if you have investors & a board of directors formed of people from outside of your immediate sphere of influence, your ass can get fired. Investors don't give a shit about you or your name if it is going to adversely affect the return on their investment.

In this case, we have no way of knowing if Cooper is being fired or retired but time will tell.

No, I don't. It's a privately held corp. We don't know who the board is, how many shareholders there are, and Dan's stake in the company.

What we do know is that everything that's been posted on their website so far has been a lie, and that he is still affiliated with the company.

Time will tell.

Unless you have controlling stock. Or, depending on the company, particularly if it is public, a "large" (say, 10%) of stock which the sudden dumping of could harm trading.

I have also seen it at a company I used to do work for. 5 owners. Father, 2 sons and 2 of Dad's brothers. Equal ownership stakes.

Son #1 started sleeping with random bartenders and generally being an embarrasment. And he was the operations manager--he ran the day to day ops.

He is gone now. He still has his ownership chip but is delegated to nothing more than running the paper shredder.

Very easy to do if the board is solid in their commitment.

Myers--if your grandfather is THE owner and the ONLY owner, you are correct.

if he has partners in the manner of shareholders, even he is a majority owner--lets use an example of 3--2 own 33% and your granbdfather owns 34%--the other two can vote their respecitve thirds and your grandfather would be sweeeping floors. But it would have to be something serious to be worthy of the legal challange sure to follow.

He would still be subject to receiving dividend checks and the like but he could be removed from day to day ops.

And this too is subject to written agreements.
