Getting things stuck take #2

Well we came across another way of blocking a rifle barrel this morning.

My mate chambered a round in his newly acquired .243 bolt action. Bolt went forwards but wouldn't close & it wouldn't bloody well pull back either.
Managed to beat the bolt open in the end but the cartridge is stuck in the chamber - appears to be about .05" off being fully chambered, with the rim bent back by the extractor.
We'd already fired 20 rounds of Winchester & this was the second round of some ammunition that came with the rifle - possibly reloads.

Looks like time to find some brass rod.......

I had a similiar esperience with some reloads I had made for a bolt gun. Worked fine in it, but case neck length was too much for my FAL. Since I no longer had the bolt gun, I pulled the bullets, trimmed to minimum length, and it worked fine after that. Could be your case neck is jammed in the throat area, which can happen with reloads, and in rare cases factory loads, if throat too short(relatively speaking). Ron

Stand to the side of your rod when you hammer that one out.

A fella got killed a while back when a live round launched the rod into his gut.

I dunno - the first of the same batch fed just fine. My guess is the round was neck sized only & the shoulder was too far forward.

I'm leaving THAT particular operation to him wot done the deed......

Bolt is out & I told him to pour some oil down the barrel & go carefully.
