Purchased my first FN-FAl a SAR 48
Paid $1050.00 came with two mags, sling, and extra top cover w/scope rings. Two comments, did I get a deal? and what type of scope would be correct for the gun.
Thanks in advance. |

I wouldn't waste my money on a scope. The FAL is not a tack driver and was never intended to be. It is a battle rifle with acceptable accuracy out to 300 yards or so, battle rifle distance. If you can get a six inch group, or better, at 300 yards, the rifle is performing it job. If you need to put something on top get a red dot sight like AimPont or EoTech.

so true, but i did the same thing. i put a cheap scope so that i can see the target better and only at 100yds. got a nice grouping but not consisent, due surplus ammo, but it was great. also sounds like you got a good deal.

I'm a firm believer that one should have at least 2 fal's, one with glass and one with iron. Or a Larue or A.R.M.S. (quick detach) mount. Two rifles is best! You can always cannibalize one for parts if needed (when the SHTF). Don't spent too much on the scope, a bushnell 3200 or a burris short mag work fine. It is nice to be able to clearly identify the target!

I would say you got a very good deal. Kit guns are selling for around $950.
Lets see some pictures of it! |

Ya done fine. A nice SAR 48 will bring $1000+ all day long. Thats not too far off from what they cost brand new in the '80s. You didn't get hurt.
As far as scope mounds go, get the one from DSA. I have one, and I am real happy with it. I can pop head sized rocks consistenly at 200 yards with my Aimpoint comp M2 on my carbine. That's all I need.
