Build parts and 922r

I understand that I can't have more than 10 parts of my FAL that are imported. I have looked for a list and haven't found one that I can difinitely check off for my build.

when I first started looking at FALs the AWB was still in effect. At that time you couldn't have a FS and other "evil" features.

What can I have on my rifle and what can't I have? I have one of Dan's Imbel Kits and am building on a DSA receiver.

I want to replace the muzzle device but don't know if I can add a FS such as a Vortex or one of the YHM Phantoms ( http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ARR2852-63742-1886.html ).

MY gunsmith is telling me that some screws are considered to be a US compliance part and that he isn't sure if the Imbel Muzzle device will be legal or not.

I know that there is a list of parts and replacing specific ones will keep my compliant.

There are no state or local regs/laws that will affect my build.

Here's a link for you :

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs/usr/wba...i_auto_faq.txt

Here' s the list of parts (notice no screws here):

* (1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or
stampings
* (2) Barrels
(3) Barrel extensions
(4) Mounting blocks (trunions)
* (5) Muzzle attachments
* (6) Bolts
* (7) Bolt carriers
* (8) Operating rods
* (9) Gas pistons
* (10) Trigger housings
* (11) Triggers
* (12) Hammers
* (13) Sears
(14) Disconnectors
* (15) Buttstocks
* (16) Pistol grips
* (17) Forearm handguards
* (18) Magazine bodies
* (19) Followers
* (20) Floorplates

I've put an asterisks (*) beside the parts which apply to the FAL. You can have up to but no more than 10 of these parts.

Of these the (8) Operating rods and (10) Trigger housings can be confusing. The BATF has ruled that the charging handle is an operating rod and the lower receiver is a trigger housing.

To add to USMC 0341's post, here is a list of the 17 evil parts found on FALs. Read post #14. You may have NO MORE than 10.

Where you live dictates the rules on the muzzle thingy.
But for most places it does not have to be permanently attached and you can use the original one provided you can meet the parts count.

As for the screw.. he is prolly talking about using a pin to permanently attach the muzzle thingy. If that is a requirement of your state.

Doesn't the law say "manufacture" and not "have"?

Yes, the law says "manufacture". So if you get caught with a non-compliant rifle, and they don't care to attempt to prove you did the "manufacturing", they will simply confiscate the rifle as contriband.

So far, the risk of being prosecuted for "manufacturing" seems to be rather low. That is the case up to now. Next year? Who knows.

Either way, it isn't worth the risk to me to be exposed to having any rifle confiscated when it is so easy to follow the law.

I see non compliant semi autos for sale on public display everywhere.

I never see non compliant full auto of suppressed on display.

It took me a while to figure out why.

Not as long as it took me to figure out why beer goes in yellow and comes out clear, and yet water goes in clear and comes out yellow.

If you get "caught" with a non compliant rifle, you have way bigger problems.

Your gunsmith doesn't have a freakin' clue. If he is that totally out of touch he's a clown. Would be even worse if he's bullshitting you on purpose for whatever reason, given the potentially serious nature of this deal. Can't you find somebody in your area who's a bit better educated?

Compliance with 922r involves ONLY the parts mentioned by USMC 0341. NO OTHERS, PERIOD.

Why don't you tell your gunsmith you bought a Wolff spring replacement kit and now have enough compliance parts to properly meet 922r, and see what he says in reply.
