Portuguese FNM experiences (70's vintage?)

AmmoMan has this stuff for cheap enough that I picked up 500rds. What can I expect from it? I just saw a reply somewhere (from Dano, I think) that said avg 2754 fps, how consistent is it? I assume its non-corrosive. Overall, is it any good. BTW, 500 rds is $95 ($0.19 per round exactly), shipping is free.

Anybody?

I shot some 1980 man. Port. through STG 58 kit gun. Chrono at 2670. Group size 1 1/4" at 100 meters, sometimes 1" groups if I didn't pull one. Most accurate stuff (surplus) I could find for my guns.

I believe that Century has it in 200 round battle paks for $130.00 per thousand, with shipping included in that price. I have never heard anyone speak badly of the Port surplus ball. HTH!

Jim

I've been shooting Portuguese ammo for about 20 years, from when I was into belt-fed MG's. Every MG shooter was using it, as it was accurate & reliable.
About 5+ years ago Soldier Of Fortune evaluated it and rated it as "match grade", something like an average of 8 fps deviation! Lake City Match isn't that consistent.
If you look around you can usually get it at about $180/1,000 delivered. New
batches should be coming in soon, the price drops about $20/1,000 when everyone has it. 20 years ago it was
$140/1,000 + shipping, so it hasn't gone up much. It was the first ammo to be packaged in sealed 200-rd. "battle packs". I have some from 20 yrs. ago,
and it's fine.
I just checked: Eric the Ammoman has it @ $179/1,000 w/free shipping. Cole is out. AIM might have some.

Dittos, best shooting and most accurate surplus I've ever seen. Very consistant. The cases I've shot all had "FNM 79-34" headstamps.

I wish all the surplus was this good. Then I wouldn't have to waste my time reloading.
